What do you think of Doom 3?

Turns out, a lot of people don't like Doom 3!

What do you think about it?

Some people think of it as this giant epic fail. I remember it was led up to be a rival to Half-Life 2 (then Half-Life 2 was delayed to the next year), and HL2 was definitely better. The monster closets were kind of lame and the flashlight thing was a major WTF, but generally, I don't think Doom 3 was that bad.

What do you think about it?

i liked it. heck i used to like every game out there until crysis came along. now i need everything to look like that. >_<

didn't like it. the graphics were sweet at the time, but it was incredibly predictable and repetitive. its like they figured out 1 way to scare people (dark scary hallway and just a tiny flashlight) and said "well lets just do that a lot" theres only so much of that I can take before I don't even care about anything else being good

Yeah 7 years ago it was cool. And it WAS a pc only game which means it was originally programmed with a pc in mind, none of that console bs.
Yes doom 3 came out on console but it was way later that they ported it.

I liked it, but certainly didn't love it. I reloaded it and started playing through "Resurrection of Evil" and the graphics still look pretty good. A bit blocky and plastic looking, sure. But it works in Eyefinity and runs well.

Heh, Ill bet if it wasnt open gl based and direct x based we would encounter "problems" with todays hardware and OSes

I enjoy pulling it out when I want a single player game that takes longer than 4 hours to finish.

I totally agree with this guy... the only older game that scared the bejeezuz out of me was Thief III. Loved that game. Wheres the next one.
