Is the HD content you get on the internet really good enough for a big TV? Much of the content I've seen even though it was HD (not exactly sure of the resolution) seems way over-compressed compared to cable.

Serially I think Riku boxes are ok if you got the bandwith.

But for example, at my exs house I remember the TV signal came from the ethernet slot in the wall, then I find out the whole building has a fiber optic line. Im like ok that sounds good, what was the result? LAGGY ass tv channels that on a busy night would literally make watching a movie impossible. It was so bad I was planning on building a mini itx htpc rig just for the TV and dl media on my own rig and just transfer it to the htpc.

I've streamed Netflix through Xbox over a wired connection (had 4 bars) and the quality was just ok compared to the HD channels I get on cable.

Hulu Plus HD on my 50" plasma looks almost as good as OTA HD. The same for Netflix HD. Notice I said *almost* as good. The picture definitely shows more compression, especially in darker scenes, but I don't have a problem with the way it looks at all. I would say it's barely any worse than Directv HD.

Netflix streams 1080 via the PS3. I don't know if it's 1080 "p" or "i" though. Even if it was p it's too compressed to look nearly as good as Blu-Ray anyway. It doesn't stop me from enjoying Stargate SG-1 in HD though.

The non hd (480) stuff can be a tad blurry at times. It looks good on the 26 inch tv's i have in the bedrooms. The 46 inch in the living room can be a little bit blurry. There all lcd's that native @ 1920x1080

The streaming hd stuff depending on the source usually looks a tad bit better then regular cable. Sitting back on the couch about 9 feet away ive never gotten any complaints on picture quality.

Though if you pop in a true 1080p video. You can notice a difference.

Does the netflix HD streaming include 5.1 audio ? I have a nice 7.1 home theater system that more and more HD broadcasts on cable seem to take advantage of.

Yeah, I've really been enjoying it. Although I'm now to the first season that Richard Dean Anderson is not in, and the show just doesn't feel the same without him. How was Atlantis compared to SG-1 btw?

Maybe if it didn't cost 160+ for an xfinity bundle

FIOS did a way better bundle for 80

FIOS is the fiber optics based TV that I was talking about I think.

Price sounds better but Ill let you know that you might be sharing that line with the rest of your building, net AND tv bandwith...... add a busy night like a weekend night and you will see lag on your rig and your tv, this is assuming of course that your FIOS is shared.
