So very true. Kt 133a to kt 880 and the mighty N-force 2 ultra 400. Good times good times. I am still running 4 Socket A systems as servers and web surfing machines. For normal day to day they still work just fine and plenty are fast enough.

    wow

i have really been a member here since 2001 and I just dropped in here after along time out. After four years of service in Jan. my main system is going to be rebuilt hopefully soon.

I dont like the new layout but traffic has gone down. I cant beleive how much traffic is down in these forums everywhere. I do understand combining them, but will make searchs harder.

I too have been away for awhile. Mostly because of a couple of job changes in the past few years and just didn't have much time and like others everything was running smoothly.

I see it this way. Hardware has gotten more stable and there are fewer people making it. Advances have stalled and MS now includes everything except email in it's OS. Computors are past mainstream, one can do most things now from a cell phone.

Sat up late many nights reading this forum and a few others.

AMD only here. Started with the Iwill k266 then worked my way through Iwill Xp333,ECS K7S5a,soyo dragon, biostar, soltek, gigabyte, abit, asrock, msi, chaintech, dfi, now back to Asrock.never used asus or epox.still got the XP333,Soltek NV400,NF7S, all the DFIs.Here I'm on the Lightning Round only usually, cause the newer mobos they talk about are usually intel. For mobos and chips I hang at Xtreme.Amd forums. Working on the 990FX and bulldozer right now,got the asrock 990fx but im thinking of waiting on the next bulldozer stepping as they seem to be not much faster than my thuban.something to do with software utilization with the 8 cores.

Just off loaded a Athlon 1400 a couple weeks ago. I still have a pent 133 mhz around somewhere. Also have a couple spare Athlon xp 2100+'s and a 2500+ barton. Hell I have a spare Asus A7N8x deluxe, Abit Nf7-s, and a Soyo Kt600 Dragon for those just in case moments. Along with enough ddr1 memory to choke horse.

Re: kinda miss the old ways

I have an Asus P5A and K6-2 300 cpu that still works. I can still remember how much fun I had putting that PC together. It has switches to set the cpu speed and voltage. It's a wonder how some of these old warriors still work. It wasn't too long after that rig when AMD came out with the 500 MHZ cpus and Asus had K7M motherboards. I think that upgrade made amdmb as the place to find answers for AMD cpus and MBs. I remember IRQ, memory and cooling problems along with MB options were numerous in those days. Ah, what a blast it was though. When I finally got a PC up and running with all the corrrect options, switches and drivers I felt like I was superman. Today a PC can be slapped together with very few if any problems. I kinda miss the old days a bit.

Re: kinda miss the old ways

The first system I built was based on a ECS p5v a+ super socket 7 motherboard. I started out with a k6-2 266 mhz proc. By the time I upgraded to a Slot A system that thing was running a k6-2 533 @ 575. My overclocking career was started. I still have most of the parts from that system. From there I went to a Slot A system based on a shuttle AI61 Motherboard. I didn't stay with slot A long and don't have much of that system left. From there came my Abit KT7A system which is still running great today.

Somewhat miss Radeons in my fastest computer. Seems they were onto something nice/good there with them.
