    Counter-Strike Global Offensive

    It's back!

    Valve released new trailer

Does anybody care about Counter-Strike? Can it compete against the Battlefields and Calls of Duty?

No, nobody cares, and It cant compete... Well maybe. I was never a CS fan but it always seemed to be popular.
Anyway the visuals look more inline with COD.

I wouldn't say that. Its still a major game online and competitively.. even this many years (10+?) later. I was a "serious" CS player for a while in high school.. played in CAL (though only cal-o and -im lol). I don't know that i'd play a "new" CS though.. I'm sure i'd still find myself going back to 1.6 like I did when source came out

Yeah, I played a lot of CS 1.6 back in the day. I hate de_dust though and that map was so popular I just kinda bailed. Plus, BF1942 was out and I liked the biggem maps with the vehicles.

Besides, Counter-Strike put the emphasis on headshots and put a premium on snipers and sniper rifles. In the 11 years since, multiplayer games have been unplayable to those of us who don't think squatting with a sniper rifle for hours is fun.

I'll probably buy it on a sale or something because I buy everything on Steam it seems, but I doubt I'll play it seriously with BF3.

I played the original CS from BETA and had some fun in CSS. It's still fun to log on and spray every now and then. But the size of the headshot hitbox always made the game fun for less and less time every time I played. It helped a lot when they 86'd the "bunny hopping/skipping" crap. But the near 70% headshot death ratios just turned me off. There is nearly no other way to die in that game. I switched to BF/COD/SOF/MOH games and never looked back. Some new maps and better IQ will not hurt CS. But unless they fix the game from their apparent tendency to coddle skill~less kills with oversized hitboxes.. it's going to remain at the bottom of my list of FPS games to play.

**edit** Just watched the video.. "cross platform play". Yup.. nevermind. I'm not interested in the least in playing a game dumbed down enough to accommodate consoles at the same time.

i dunno, maybe if you're pubbing theres a lot of campers, but playing a competitive gameplay style 5v5 with strats etc does not reward campers.. especially bad ones. i could never snipe and didn't feel like i was constantly getting killed by snipers

Just announced, the cross platform play will be with mouse and keyboard only. Valve says that means PC and Mac, plus PS3 people who plug a mouse and keyboard into their PS3. There is no way to get mouse and keyboard working on Xbox 360, so Xbros won't be able to play cross-platform CS:GO.

So, glad that Valve isn't nerfing the PC gameplay for the consoles.

I used to play cs on a cal i server. Got tired of it and went to battlefield.
But you know what, all I can say is that I have had a revelation, which is that all mass media is the opiate of the masses. Thats all im gonna say, no more me touching a computer playing video game or listening to music or movies.

Just watched the video. My first impression was that it looked like COD. It will be interesting to see how fun it is to play.

Valve is dropping the cross-platform play from CS:GO. So, I guess us PC uber elites won't be able to just mop the floor with the Xbox 360/PS3 gamers.

They're claiming that it was because they would of had to tie PC updates for the game into the same time frame as the Xbox 360 / PS3 updates, which are much slower. I guess that's a good reason but I have to believe that balance issues must of played a part in this.

Bump. Now on sale for $13.

One of my friends was in the beta. He says it's pretty cool. It's also supposed to be CS, so don't expect it to reinvent the wheel.
