I don't think I've ever wanted something so much in my life...
This sounds like it's going to be alot of work and probably take at least a few years. From what I understand; all of the post production work like the video edition and special effects were done on analog tape, so they have to go back to the originial film negatives, and re-do all 176 episodes to remaster in 1080p.

Looks ok on DVD, it can look better on blu ray, proper widescreen it seems, better detail I hope.
