I am helping my friend build a new PC and we have received all of the components but are having problems getting it to boot. The bulid was based on the high end HW Leaderboard specs including a Intel Core i7 2600K and a Asus P8Z68 V Pro Motherboard.
When we attempt to power it on the computer starts just enough to beep for post and then shuts down for a few seconds before starting up again and staying on. The screen shows nothing during this time.
The CPU LED is illuminated the entire time the motherboard has power. Based on the motherboard manual this would seem to indicate an issue with the CPU itself. I am fairly certain that the CPU is correctly seated and the fan/heatsink is correctly installed, though I have to say that the locking mechanism for the fan seems terrible to me.
I have attempted removing all of the components and removing them does not effect how the computer starts. Clearing the CMOS removes the issue where the system double boots at the beginning but the screen still shows nothing, and after restarting it the double boot returns.
Is it time to RMA the cpu or motherboard or both? Any help is greatly appreciated.
