Question upgrade celeron to p4 on same motherboard

Happy new year all. I'm new to the forum and certainly no computer GURU.

    Here's my question; I have a P4 Titan GA-8IPE1000 mother board (current BIOS) with a 2.93 ghz Celeron processor & 4GB DDR400 RAM. The mother board will support the P4 (SL7P) 3.48ghz 1mb/800FSB chip.

I'm operating XP Pro with service pack 3.

I want to swap out the Celeron for the P4 so I can squeeze some more life out of the computer before I have to let Microsoft pound me in the (|) by forcing me to upgrade to WIN7+ and having to buy all new soft ware. (current configuration is adequate to my needs, want to upgrade the video and make the system a little snappier).

Will I have to re-activate my Windows XP, AND if so, does Microsoft still offer the service?

    FYI, I'm not a "gamer".

Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know they still do re-activations. Seems it'll have to reactivate when it makes itself obvious, reactivation request in Windows. Online with PC or with the phone call.

If your just swapping out cpus you won't need to reinstall windows.

Was able to swap the cpu with no problem whatsoever. The motherboard recognized it and Windows XP did not require a re-activation.

    Thanks for the input!
