upgrade benefits

Presently running rig in profile I7-920 with 12 GB ram on X58A-UD3R with SLI 460's thinking about upgrade with Microcenter I5-2500K deal. $179 plus $50 off when purchased with Z68 MB.

what if any real world/gaming increases/benefits would I really see by just upgrading the CPU/MOBO and leaving everything else as is?

Well,

As far as I can remember, You would lose PCIE lanes as well as 4 virtualized threads.

That may or may not make up for it in clock speed (in the SB rig)

Me, I'd wait for Ivy Bridge before pulling the trigger. But if it's a super good deal or if you need a backup rig now; go for it

cpu/mb/ram upgrade would be @ $400. My backup rig seems to be acting normally again since I uninstalled Spybot S&D beta so it should hopefully keep on chugging though it is a bit old. Just looked and my present rig is only 1 1/2 yrs old and still does the job.

Always torn about spending the bucks for an upgrade when i can't really justify it.

I went with 6 core 12 thread Gulftown. Sold my Bloomfield to someone else. To make more appropriate use of it.

I wouldn't consider an i5 2500k to be an upgrade from an i7 920.
