Abit, Albatron, and the real gainward... All will be missed. I had one of these bad boys http://www.anandtech.com/show/706. Man that was a good motherboard in its time. As was the NF7-S. Almost as good as the DFIs back then for overclocking. RIP Abit.

    Re: End of an era

I am going back to Montana to move stuff out of the Mom's house so we can sell it and bring back my NF7-S (It is still on right now) and a 939 Abit too. Loved the ULI boards. My Mom is staying with us now and using a AN-8 Fatal1ty with XP64

I have used Gigabyte for my last two builds, but ASRock seems to be livining up the Arena. DFI gone too. I still have some EPox too.
There are advantages to being retarded...and I'm taking advantage of all of them.

I loved Epox boards back when I first started putting systems together. I must have bought a dozen of them.

    Re: End of an era

    I still have my BX6 2.0 sitting in a corner, pretending it's a NAS.

Longest lived motherboard ever, in my desktop it went from a 300Mhz Celeron to over a GHz with a P3/slocket.

And always stable as a rock.

Too bad I never had the same luck with another ABit board.

But they were the greatest for a while.
Never trust a programmer with a screwdriver, if he starts talking about sonic ones, RUN!!
Run faster and further then you've ever run before!!

It's too much work to update my specs in a sig, it's a 6 core budget build. If you must know, it's in my profile.

    Re: End of an era

I never had an Epox board that worked well except for an old socket 7 with the VIA MVP3 chipset. Abit, on the other hand was awesome. I love the NV7-133R and the AI7 I have has been a little trip down memory lane with the SoftMenuIII OC stuff.

I haven't been able to upgrade the core of anything over the past couple years, but it doesn't seem like there's as much effort like there was in the past...either that or I know where to go to get things going.

    Re: End of an era

Sad day indeed. Abit made incredibly solid boards. My first was a BH 6 (I think) with a P3-550. Had several since then and all were great including my last NF7. iWill made a good 266 board. Shuttle AN35N was another favorite. I think Shuttle went the server side but I;m not sure about iWill.
