What bank do you use?

I've used Whitney bank for the last few years. But recently they started losing my deposits. As in, ill deposit some checks, get a receipt, and check my account the next day to find no mention of the deposits. I have to bring the receipt in while they stand there and scratch their heads and apologize. Thing is, if i didn't have the receipt, how could i prove i made the deposit?

Anyway, so im going to change banks. Just curious if there are some out there i should consider first. Will be using business and personal accounts.

Ummm.... PayPal? I work as a freelance writer and I get paid by PayPal. PayPal has some questionable policies and isn't federally insured so I shouldn't use it like a bank account. But, I do anyway. They allow me quick and easy access to my money.

I have a checking account with PNC. Actually, I opened it with St. Francis Bank when I was 16 and got my first part-time job. Then St. Francis was acquired by Midwest Bank. Midwest Bank was acquired by National City, then National City was acquired by PNC. Deregulation, I love it.

I usually get loans (car loans, student loans) from Wells Fargo. They were the only major bank that didn't overleverage themselves and didn't need a bailout (though the Treasury forced them to take one), so I buy money from them whenever I need it.

I use pay pal. But i get a lot of checks via mail still. Id prefer not too, but hey as long as they are paying me on time i wont complain lol.

I've mainly used credit unions in the past. But i don't live in an area where one is located with reasonable daily access.

I would like to stay with my current bank. All the people at the multiple locations i visit are very friendly and offer prompt service. But when you lose thousands of dollars in deposits, it's inexcusable.

That is inexcusable.
I use US Bank.
I think they are local.
They were 1st Wisconsin > 1st Star > US Bank

Do you need access to ATMs to get cash out a lot? or do you primarily use a debit or credit card and checks for banking?

If you need cash a lot, then I would suggest a bank with lots of ATMs so you're not using others outside of the banks network and get charged atm fees. Otherwise, I'd suggest a credit union bank.

That's the problem with credit unions - lack of ATMs. I'm sure they're getting better, but I doubt any credit union has the reach of an ATM network of say Citigroup or BofA.

Everybody always wants to dump the big superbanks for a credit union but then discovers that they don't have as many ATMs.

I primarily use debit/checks. But i deposit checks pretty much daily and the there is not a credit union a branch convenient to my house. I used Whitney because they have a branch about a mile from my house and a couple in the outer areas that i cover.

Most convenient to my house are Wells Fargo, BOA(no thanks),Regions, Hancock,First National and Suntrust. They are all within a 5 min drive. There are a couple others, but i do work for those banks and would like to avoid any conflict.

That and branch locations pretty much sums it up. There is a large credit union about 20 min from here with multiple branch locations, but the 20 min one is the closest to me.

Checking with Bank of America (most convenient ATMs)
Savings with my old credit union (good rates on loans and super nice folks)
Credit Card with Chase Visa (been with them since before I went to Vietnam and it was called Bank Americard)

One problem over a double billing in the early 90s with Chase that was solved to my satisfaction and a routing number change that delayed my tax refund last year with B of A. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with all of them.

I just ask of course because M&I used to be a Milwaukee bank that a lot of people I know had accounts in before it was absorbed into BMO Harris.

DCU Credit Union. I highly, HIGHLY recommend them! They don't even have a local branch here in Colorado anymore. Lol, the closest physical branch to me is somewhere on the east coast. They do however offer check deposit by pc (scanner) or via Apple/Android apps. I simply take a picture of a check with my phone and they deposit it immediately. They also give me free credit checks every month, complete with score. No fees at all, and any atm I use is reimbursed. I got a car loan through them a decade ago, and have been using and happy with them ever since.

Things have been smooth with them, so unless something happens to really piss me off, it's hard to justify switching. I've been treated fairly well.
