Problem with Bios......intermttent loss of saved settings.

As of late I am experiencing a strange loss of Bios setting when I either warm boot or cold boot.
Examples as follows:
When restarting either from a warm restart or cold restart, I will hear 3 beeps which I believe is a memory related error, correct me if I am wrong. I do know if settings go back to default range the voltage is less than what is needed to successfully boot with OC settings enabled.

I have also noticed that I sometimes do loose all of the bios settings under many different conditions, regardless of how and why I had to restart.

The one setting that stands out the most is the FSB setting, many times this value is the only value changed; [goes back to default] and needs to be reset.

This machine has given me yeoman service since 2008 and has been OC'D at a 50% overclock 60% of the time, the rest of the time it is OC'D at a bit higher rate and stable.

I did replace the Battery on the MOBO[P5K-Premium WiFi/AP thinking this might possibly be the cause. I have found the incident of this happening to be less but values in the BIOS still change however infrequently.

I was thinking that the Bios could possibly be corrupt and might reflash it. I would appreciate any thoughts anyone has on this issue.

I have had so very little issues with this build I have taken it for granted, it still is very quick, it still works great, I am in the works of getting together a new build but this issue is annoying.

1 long beep and 2 short beeps are a memory error . Have you run any memory test ? Bad memory might corrupt your bios . So try running a memory test see if theres a problem and if there is then replace it and see if that helps .

Ran Memtest, no problems, reset hardware in case of creep and replaced battery, while the problem seemed gone it still happens however much less.

try to replace the memory, i had the same problem.
Before that verify your graphics card and memory sockets are in place.

Well, I should have a 64GB SSD coming today, I an going to install the OS on it and see how it performs compared to my current Raid0 setup with the 2 WD640GB Black Hdd. Because of this I am dissembling everything and reassembling it all after a thorough cleaning too. As I do this I will benchtest all my hardware and run them in my testbed prior to reassembly.

Once all this is done, I will wait and see what is happening providing my current hardware is fine.........

Update: Installed SSD, new clean install, runs great except on occasion I post to default cpu speed although bios settings are still at OC'd setting, when it happens I press F10 in the bios and it reboots, post with OC'ed settings and all is well. Checked all hardware in testbed, reseated everything, Disassembled power supply [full of dust, cat hair, happens to be 9.5 " long and weighs as much as both my cats], reassembled, running fine and much cooler too now, thinking possibly a corrupt bios? Might try reflashing bios?......

I had a Gigabyte motherboard that would lose its BIOS settings with each reboot. The board would go with last know good settings and was still able to boot after going through menu prompts but I was never able to fix it.

I replaced the motherboard’s battery, reset the BIOS and eventually flashed the BIOS. Nothing worked.

Ended up replacing the motherboard.

I might get a ASUS MAXIMUS EXTREME LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX used and some DDR3, its cheap enough to replace it, still not sure yet.


Changed out the P5K Prem for a Rampage Formula I picked up for $25.00 and I am loving it, great board except that Asus uses crap two sided tape under the heatsinks , swiched out to AS5 and all is luvy-dovey.........69% overclock with a possibility of squeezing out a few more, I would like to get 4.0ghz on air, 3.6 most can get anyway from these chips in 65nm and 45nm flavors with just a voltage bump and a raise in fsb. Gonna try!!!!
