How much watts I need for a good PSU?

How do I go about figuring the correct watts PSU to get for a new build. How far do I go over but not waste money on a to powerful PSU. Thanks

I'd have more faith in that tool if it didn't think that my current rig needs a 1271W PSU. I'm sure those things actually work in VA, not watts.

I have the perfect amount for my rig. I don't have much overhead but it runs everything.
    NZXT power supplies are awesome.

Thermaltake 650 should do you just fine and run about 60.00
