Will I gain many fps upgrading my cpu?

Been contemplating upgrading my cpu to an i5 2500k and pairing it with a Biostar TZ77XE4 motherboard.....But not sure if an i5 2500k has as much IPC as an i7 860?

This old i7 (original) is still faster then any AMD cpu so upgrading to amd is out. I know I can probably oc an i5 2500k to at least 4.4 or 4.5 but its just a multiplier OC vs a BCLK oc I can do now.

I basically use this pc for web browsing and gaming. Would you bother upgrading the cpu or mobo? All my pc games fly now...(since upgrading the video card)

Your current CPU is plenty fast enough for gaming. I doubt you would get any benefit from an upgrade. Not worth it.

    Thanks, Lenny.

I respect your opinion as I can gather you are quite the gamer!

I concur. Upgrading your older i7 800 series processor is somewhat silly. Still a very, very fast processor at that speed.

    Thanks, Josh.

I came very close to wasting about $500 last month! As this pc has been upgraded from an OEM machine bit by bit (I would have had to buy Windows 7 as it was preinstalled on this.) I just changed its psu, video card and case.
A different socket would have had me buy a cpu, mobo AND Windows.

If you're not noticing any performance issues, the only compelling reason to upgrade is if you're a nerd and just want to play with new hardware for the sake of it. It's a small price to pay to indulge in nerdery.

I have the Intel® Core™ i7-860 on my gaming system at home and if I were really looking to upgrade I wouldnt change the processor I would focus on a SSD. I work on a system with a SSD here at work every day and when I go home I dread rebooting my system because I don't have an SSD.

I get around that by not actually turning the machine off....

I put mine in standby most of the time.

If the upgrade urge is about to overcome your good sense I would go for the SSD also.
