I remember getting those on floppies...
Whoah! I wanna print dinosaur pictures too!![]()
I don't know if any of you are fans of Formula One racing, but back in 2007, there was a scandal where some ex employee of the Ferrari team stole a bunch of technical data and gave it to the McLaren team. I remember the president of the FIA, Max Mosley saying "As I recall, this is about somebody stealing floppy discs from Ferrari."
Really? Floppy discs? The Ferrari F1 team with its $400 million annual budget is definitely not using floppy discs for anything.
The quality supervisor I worked with at my (soon to be) last job was a real packrat. Me and this other guy were allowed to take his desks provided we were willing to clean out his office and storage room when he retired.
The storage room was about 10x8 and was packed full of bins containing 5.25",and 8" floppy disks of data dating back to the late 80's, along with some manuals for Novell's Quattro, Lotus, DOS and other antiquated software.
We also managed to find a Bag of Utz' Potato chips from 1985. But seriously, 90% of the room was these floppy disks., and it was like he was trying to save the whole internet on them lol.
What's kind of sad really is that I doubt floppy disks would retain data after being stored for that long, and even if they did I have no idea how you would retrieve information from them because they used obsolete formatting systems, and there is no such way to connect these devices to any kind of modern computer.

How would you get data off of an 8" floppy disk these days? I wonder if you can find a USB 8-inch floppy drive somewhere.
