Gamer Plays Civilization II For A Decade...
I was torn on putting this in News, or Games. If a mod feels it belongs elsewhere, by all means move it.
Gamer Plays Civilization II For A Decade, Pretty Much Destroys the World
If we're being honest, we don't play turn-based strategy games like Civilization II to beat them. We play them to see how we can destroy the entire world if we were in charge. And one Redditor has managed to create one doozy of a dystopia.
He played the same game of Civ II, first released in 1996, for ten years, and currently the game calendar is on 3991. And how bad is it?
Well, there are three enormous empires, locked in perpetual nuclear war that's ground on, somehow, for nearly two millennia. Thanks to the nukes, the ice caps have melted twenty times, much to the confusion of the player, turning most of the planet into a toxic swamp. Militarily, it's a stalemate as all nations produce war materiel while their people starve.
I know, we all have been there in CivII - IV, the game is "done", but we still play a couple days more. Maybe even taking it to the extreme and playing the same "beat" game for months. I found this article entertaining and gave me a lot to think about in the geekiest way possible.
