Unhappy Speedstep and Broken Fan Header

I have a Dell Latitude D600 that I was rebuilding and while disconnecting the cpu fan the fan header pulled off with it. The laptop now runs at the lowest speedstep frequency which I'm assuming is because the laptop doesn't detect the fan.

Are there any bios mods or ways to disable to fan check so that the cpu will run at full speed, or anyway to get the fan header back on without resoldering, some type of glue maybe?

Should contact Dell or technician for Dell or third party with proper heatsink and fan and request replacement heatsink and fan I think, better for more performance because good for laptop and user.

guess you probably found this page already

if you can't solder it - buying a new can't cost that much from a good electronics shop
or they have a link to ebay in the article

the problem is the fan header on the system board came off. i used super glue but heard that isnt good and i need silicon glue. i was only going to sell this laptop for like 45-60 bucks so investing money in it wouldn't be worth it.

just wondering if there was a tweak to bypass the fancheck so speedstep doesnt run at reduced speed.

How fast is the fan running. Im going to guess that if the fan is not detected, that it also is going to run it at one speed. And unless that is maximum speed, you might want speed step to throttle your cpu at a lower speed.

I used to have one of those, and those fans are fairly loud at max speed. But I suppose if anything you could disable speedstep in the BIOS and just run the cpu at max speed and monitor temps with speedfan and see how it works.

But if you want to fix it right, I suppose anything from silicon glue to soldering is worth a try because your only other option is a new board.

If you were only planning to sell it for $45, you could probably make at least that, if not more selling it on ebay for parts or even selling it as is.

I guarantee someone will buy it for that price knowing whats wrong with it

disabling speedstep in bios runs cpu at lowest speed. the fan isn't detected therefore it does not run. i will disassemble the laptop again remove superglue and then try silicon glue. hopefully finding a way to benchtest the laptop disassembled as taking apart a laptop is very time consuming.

Well, the header is now destroyed. The plastic became very brittle.

Guess BIOS hack, selling for parts or slow pc are the only options.
