WIFI Security/Home Camera. Anyone used one?

Has anyone ever used something like this? Wife and I were thinking of getting one of these for the family to see our newborn. How easy are they to setup? Can you actually view it through your phone (iPhone/Android)? Also can someone else from a different computer log in and view it (family)?

This was something I quickly found on ebay....

you want remote access to watch the camera ?

The only "stand alone" device I'm aware of is Dropcam

Well the one pictured claims to have software with it as well. If it has to run through a computer that is completely fine.

96s10: here are my thoughts on that camera after a few day of usage....

I am using this camera in the front of my house and have it pointing out a bay window that overlooks my driveway/front yard..

I had to go back and look at the description to make sure that it is a color camera because the color the camera captures is pretty washed out so I would not expect real (warm color tones) from the camera.

I have had several instances of the camera just randomly motorizing (pan and tilt) to where it is pointing to the top of a tree rather than the position I had it set at.. I have not taken the time to look into it yet..just kind of a random quirk

I have also had instances of the wireless signal dropping out.. not good if you need a really reliable security camera.

It was easy to set up, so no problem there.

I would have to say that for the price it is an interesting gadget that leads me to become more interested in surveillance technology.. to that end I do believe I will eventually get a cctv camera setup.

forgot to mention the IR technology: I tested by putting it in my blacked out garage and then checking the output on my computer..... for an indoor camera I found the IR to be adequate and very usable..

Trying to use the IR function when shooting thru glass creates too much glare feedback... I will have to further test by bringing the camera outside at night and test IR..

Neat to play with for the price..

    96s10:

For the money this is a nice little camera, It's a Foscam clone. There's better out there but not for this money. It's ok for viewing a newborn the picture will be fine, just remember don't expect 1080i. You'll need to read up on 'port forwarding' is you don't already know about it.
Once set up, the camera will have an IP address that can be viewed within a browser IE,firefox, chrome etc. Software that comes with the camera will allow you to put a password on it so only the people you give the password to will be able to view the camera.

I also set mine up with a motion detection software that captures to jpg any movement. There is plenty freeware available. Have it save jpg's to something like dropbox and bingo you got the pics backing up online.
