Question Low FPS in certain games?

    Hello there.

I am getting low FPS in certain games and I do not have a clue why? I exceed all the requirements for these games. Dirt 3 and Grand Theft Auto 4 for example. 25 - 40 FPS at times if not lower. Too me, this is not acceptable for the system I am running.

    Here are my system specs.

    Motherboard: Asus Crosshair V
CPU: AMD FX 8150 running at 3.6ghz.
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 16GB running at 1600.
    GPU: AMD Radeon 7970 3GB
    HDD: Kingston SSD.
    Power Supply: Thermaltake 1500 watts.

Could this be a driver fault? Motherboard? GPU? Or even CPU? I think I have all the updated drivers, but I could be wrong. Serious replies only please. I would appreciate the help . Thank you.

Are you running Win 7 ?

What resolution are you running ?

What kind of "eye candy" do you have enabled ?

Thank you for the reply. I am running Win 7 64 bit. Resolution is at 1920 x 1080. Eye candy is cranked all the way up. I dont see why I cant have a high resolution and the eye candy cranked all the why up with the system I have?

Are you using fraps to see the framerate ?

And yes, you should be able to turn up some of the details...

Can I get a little bit of history of your rig ?

New OS install ? Driver cleaner, etc.

No, I am not using FRAPS. I have been using the in game bench marking tools.
I just got this PC back In April of this year. I have had no problems with my rig what so ever. All I am using is a registry cleaner and Avira for virus scanner.
I bought my rig through Ibuypower. Came with new OS install.

I'd lean toward drivers at this point.

do you know what version if the video card drivers you are using at present ?

I am using 12.6 drivers at the moment. I do believe 12.6 is the most recent drivers from AMD. I will give the games another shot again and see what they are like.

Alright, I tested out Dirt 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV out again. I got about 70 fps in Dirt 3, and I got about 40 fps in Grand Theft Auto IV. I am happy with Dirt 3's performance, but not so much with Grand Theft Auto IV's. I get a lot of lag and slow downs with that game. I would say I am running about 25 fps on average if not lower. I am not even using half of my video memory according to the game menu settings. Could it be just the game itself perhaps?
