Pulled "blue" pwm fan wire on ASUS K53 - Win7 power options not working?
I modded my asus k53 with an air intake under the laptop and pulled the pwm blue wire on the fan connector so it runs at full 5v constantly and isn't very loud. I ran 100 runs of intelburntest at 3Ghz in turbo boost mode on my 2720QM and was hitting between 65-70*C on all 4 cores. Before I would see 90*C on some of the cores and it would throttle back. This way it can run at full 3Ghz all the time and never throttle back since temps are devastatingly good.
My objective was to set the windows 7 power options minimum processor state to 100% and max to 100%. However since I did this mod and it was doing it before but I can't confirm it yet. It simply ignores my minimum at 100%. I think the PWM wire has an effect on the windows acpi or something of that nature? I left the yellow wire which detects the speed and it's at 4,600rpm all the time. Maybe if I pull the yellow wire too so it won't detect the rpm it'll fix this. Well anyway once under load it'll kick up to turbo boost speeds and if I set it to 99% it'll only roll up to 2.2Ghz. So they are working. I just don't like when I'm at idle or performing a task the cpu is only at 798Mhz and it could use more to perform the task quicker. Anyway how do I manipulate the idle clock speeds for the core i7 in windows 7?
