Unable to install windows 7 argggg!!!

I have a Thunder K8SD Pro (S2882-D) with bios 3.09. Thought I have Xp 64 bit installed, I'm unable to install win 7. The onboard sata is a sil3114 and it don't matter if either set as ultra or raid in the bios (even though I have the latest drivers that are available on the tyan site). Windows don't see the harddrives. Even win 2008 too, is there a way round it or am I stuck with windows xp x64..

    The driver is:

    OS: Windows XP 64-bit / Windows 2003 64-bit / Windows 2008 64-bit /
    SATA (Ultra/RAID) for embedded chipsets
    Silicon Image SATA Driver for S2850, S2875, S2881, S2882, S2882-D, S2885, S4880, S4882, S4882-D, S5112 - RAID (WinXP, Win Server 2003, Win Vista 64-bit)

    hooley,
Any chance you have a PCI or PCI-X controller with Windows 7 drivers available?

Otherwise, some folks have gotten around this issue by installing Win 7 to an IDE drive, at which point you can load the Sil SATA driver. Then they clone the IDE drive to the SATA drive, remove the IDE drive and they're good to go. Not fun nor easy but they report it works.

I have ordered a pci sil3114 4 port card with win 7 driver, so will that work, and should I disable the onboard one in the bios first..

If the driver is a signed driver the Win 7 install should see it.

If not you'll probably have to go the IDE route (just for install), load the SIL drivers, then clone the drive to SATA

Seems like that 3114 card should use the same drivers as the one in the motherboard tho. Have you tried using those drivers from SIL?

Yep but they don't work either as they need the latest bios which won't work the onboard sil (only for a card)....

It looks like I'll do the harddrive image, as I bought a 160gb ide drive and I'll install windows 7 onto that. Then clone it to my sata drive. That should work eh??. But it never did work with xp, cos on boot up it would give you the blue screen of death..

take the existing sil 3114 bios (5.4.0.3) from the silicon image website and extract the orom from it. Then replace the orom packed in with the mobo's bios rom with the newer binary that you extracted (it's an AMI bios, so use MMTools). You'll then be able to use the updated drivers from the silicon image website that's ment to be used with bios 5.4.0.3 and will be able to install Win 7 after loading the drivers in the storage location advanced screen.

Had to do this for the S2882UG3NR-D-RS version of the board (that has the scsi interface as well); except it was Win Server 2008r2 SP1 rather than Win 7; the Win 7 drivers work on both platforms
