Updating a computer with a USB thumb drive?

I know someone with a dial up connection out in the country.
this is a problem especially if you want to update your computer.
any Windows updates would take many hours to do.
since i have a fast connection would it be possible to download all the Windows updates onto a USB thumb drive and physically update the computer?
I was thinking of everything, like anti virus software, Windows updates, Browser, etc
Is it possible and if it is, how do you do it?
    Will Windows recognizes it?
The persons computer is Windows XP.
Please dont suggest to upgrade the internet to basic or high speed as the option is not available.
i have already suggested this option and that life would be much easier and that you do not need to train your self to have so much patience. i feel so much time is wasted waiting at times but the basic needs are there, like email, ect.

    CMB has a great idea!

If that does not work for you. Maybe he could bring his computer to you once in awhile
