Question My OCZ psu died on me and I had a question...

For about 15-20 seconds before it died I could smell a faint aroma of charred plastic, then nothing. Usinf the CoolMax 224 atx psu tester there was no output. When I hit the switch on the back of the psu the lcd display on the tester would flash on and then immediately go off. To manually test it I shorted pins 15 and 16 and used the psu switch. The psu fan would momentarily turn then stop. My question is this: What is the chance that the psu failure did NOT cook any other component? I'm worried because I can't afford to replace everything. I've got a psu coming next week.

    Thanks,
    Tom

If it was one of their better ones then I think you'll be alright. You won't know for sure until you power the system up again

I've had two ocz's die on me. They were cheap and you get what you pay for. Luckily neither of them took any other parts with them. Only time will tell. Good luck.

I've had faulty other components take out a PSU, but never the other way around. In general, a PSU is pretty well cut off from everything else if it over-volts. But... nothing is certain. I'd certainly start with just a new PSU and check.

This was my first adventure wit OCZ, and I was pleased - until now. This is the one I had. I had no problems until it burned out.

I haven't one burn out yet, just like usual wear on power supply components until they failed and were replaced.
