I made a response in my open source firmware post below about trying to get my wifi rig connected at full speeds.
Im still tinkering around, im running the latest shibby tomato mod for WNR3500L v2. You can basically change anything you want, even the country code of router, you can set it to Europe and allow up to 13 channels for wifi spectrum or even Japan which allows up to 14. I want to try one of these channels to see if I get better connection. But from what Im reading the FCC doesn't allow that, is it illegal?
Thing is 1,6 and 11 US channels are all full of APs in my area every time I scan. What should I do? How can I get the wifi rig at max N speeds?
ANyways, No the router wont do 5ghz. Reason I ask about channel 14 is because that's what they use in Japan. FCC seems to not allow it in the USA. I mean not like they are gonna bust down your door for it, but I don't want any risks.
Ohh and yes I use Ethernet on my main rig, the wifi is on my 2nd home n00b rig. Its not bad, built it cheap with a Athlon X3 and 8 gigz of RAM when memory was firt cheap I think it was like less then 40 bucks for the RAM. Rig cost me like 300 to build.
