Tonight I did not hit 5 ghz and beyond....

Think I solved my VRM throttling issue. Tonight time to have fun, goal is 5 ghz. Lets see if I got lucky with this chip

    This chip is meh.,
So far 4.5 stable at like 1.48vcore

Trying to get 4.7 stable which it seems at is but making CPU very toasty, going above rated 62c for piledrivers.

Im tinkering with LLC, I have to over compensate at 100% since it creates Vdroop, and have to under compensate with lower LLCs like 25% which make voltage skyrocket to like 1.5.

That's the one complaing I have about Asrock 990fx boards, the LLC is so quirky you really have to know what your doing. Im getting the hang of it and I must say I never had such a hard time OCing as with this setup.

    BUMP

Update: Got 4.7 stable but temps are too hot, reaching almost 70ish which is past the 62 degree rating on piledrivers, plus it throttles CPU sometimes, friggen VRM throttling. I had it solved but still happens when voltage is too high. Im thinking of getting one of those antec fans that go in slot bays and can point towards VRM area I dunno. The cooler the VRM the less throttling.

Right now Im trying to get 4.6 stable with out it throttling. Gotta find the right combination of voltage and LLC.

lol this is for you Jethro, if theres one thing I don't like about this 8350 is the heat. There Ill give you a cookie for that

I'm thinking you need a cooling upgrade for sure. I'd like to see that setup with something like a Corsair H110.

Not worth the money, I could get a better cooler and a antec spot cool for VRMs and all I would get its 4.7.
Anything above that is not stable no matter what.

Right now Im at 4.5 and stable with no throttling and I think Im gonna stick with this.

In the end this chip is a soso ocer.

The FX 8350 I just installed is just putting along at 4.3/4.5 Turbo without any voltage increases. Using that Antec Kuhler 620 and temps are reasonable... but I haven't really stressed it yet.

Im done with CPU OC. Finally sticking with 4.5@ 1.44Vcore

Gonna try some Northbridge OCing now, they say it doesn't matter as much on FXs like it did with phenoms but its still worth a try.

    BUMP

The interweb posts are correct, OCing NB does nothing for piledrivers, I see no improvement in benchies. And this chip couldn't even do 2.6 NB to add that fact.

Now memory is a different story, Im seeing nice gains in performance by upping RAM speeds, but of course this is the trickiest part of ocing and getting the right timings so Im still in the process.
