    I5-4670k Temps in overclock

Hello, I just bought my first intel in 10 years. The I5-4670k. I already had the H100 for a cooler and its in a Haf xb lan case. I upgraded from a FX-8320 that I had overclocked to 4.8 with the temps just fine when I used the full cooling from the H100 and would down clock if I wasn't converting movies or playing games like Crysis 3. I use 32gb of Ballistic ram that I got a killer deal on. A 120 OCZ series 3 SSD for my OS, 1TB segate for games, and WD 2TB green for movies plus random external drives for movies. 1000w coolermaster silent gold psu. With an Asrock extreme 4 motherboard. I switched to a Gigabyte Z87-D3HP motherboard and the new I5-4670k. I did all the bios and driver updates for the motherboard. When I manually overclock or use the Auto overclock then I have hit temps that are scary to me. My peek was 181F. Damn! That is with new paste and the H100. What am I missing. I have heard so much good from these chips but am truly thinking about apologizing to my AMD setup and asking it to reside in my com once again. Please tell me what I am doing wrong cooling wise and I will listen. Thank you for your help in advance.

How are you monitoring the temperatures ?

Is the "cpu fan" in bios running at full speed ?

83c on the processor isn't unheard of under load. If it's not under load, I'd re-seat the cpu block and check the fan speed.

sounds like it's working just fine to me.

When not under load it goes quickly back down to 75-81F.

    Yup, those temps look good.

The voltage seems a little high to me...

How are you viewing those temps ?

My FX-8320 never got hot like that, never past 140F with the H100, 151 with the H80. So these temps for the intel are still in the green?

    Yup.

If I recall correctly, the processor doesn't start to throttle itself until around 95c (200f or so)

Hey thanks for the info, I was truly worried and ready to pull it and pop in the FX chip and board thinking that was what I was stuck with. Does the new paste take some time to pull the temps from the chip or is that just here say? Oh and please have a nice night.

like you i was slow at jumping to the darkside. all my builds have been with amd until the last with a 3770k.

i really think you need to rethink the voltage. every article on oc'n your 4670k shows they're using under 1.30v and closer to 1.27v.

if you can get it there, i'm pretty sure your temps will follow.
