    Steam Music Player

Has anybody experimented with the new music player functionality of Steam?

I usually run WinAmp in the background for games I've played a billion times and don't need to hear their sound/music. But, Steam has integrated media functionality now and looks kind of neat? Anybody played around with it yet?

I took a look at that player out of curiosity.
I have not seen a more spartan-esque player since the Win98 days.
What with the vast myriad of players out there, including among others - Foobar, WinAmp even Windows Media Player, why would some one even consider using that?
I think Steam should stick to what they do best. Games.

If it allows you to control the audio via the steam overlay, thats a big win in terms of convenience for people who game with music on. No alt tabbing and most high end gaming KB's these days don't have any superfluous media keys. I really couldn't give less of a crap about any special features in foobar, but then again I can't fathom how people game with music playing, so I don't think I'll be using either.

    Good point.
As I never game with music on, I really have no need to use it.
And as a every day music player, don't think so.

What format do the music files have to be in for Steam Music to work? I couldn't get it to work with any of my files.

The interface is a bit clunky and kind of a pain to make a playlist but you can access it via the steam overlay so that is going to be it's main advantage over other players.
