Question Gaming on 4K monitor, but using 1080p resolution??

    I'm interested in getting a 4K monitor.
For now, it will be primarily used for productivity applications that would benefit from the larger desktop space. However, I do game on my PC. I currently have a GTX 770. It's perfectly good for gaming at 1080p and some 1440p. I don't have the cash to get both the monitor and upgrade the graphics portion at the same time.

My question is this, is it possible to game at 1080p on a 4K display?
Will there be any of the "blurry" mess that results from driving a display at non-native resolution?

Maybe the better option would be to just invest in a 1440p monitor....

    What are your thoughts?

UPDATE: I decided to just add a second 1080p screen for now. I thought about a 4K monitor or TV and the truth is that you would need probably at least a 32" or 40" screen for 4K to kind of make sense. At least without adjusting the display scaling in Windows. But then if you did that, you would lose some of the new real estate. The prices for 4K at those sizes are just too much for me right now.
