That was weak for a comeback. Try again
The anti-Brexiteers commenting about PDT's competence.... how amusing. I'm sure they'd much rather be dealing with that political lightweight Obama. The same "deep thinkers" who brought us Trans-Pacific Partnership, the Paris Climate Accords & Iran deal don't think much of PDT. Color me shocked.

Thank A Democrat... Vote DNC
AOC... New Leader DNC ....
Just got back from the annual family driving vacation, finishing off a jaunt through Tennessee and South Carolina by spending July 4 - 6 in DC. I was curious this morning to see crowd estimates from Trump's event, and find them hard to locate. We walked out of the fenced area as Trump neared the end of his speech, and even then more people were entering through the gates than exiting. It's a bit comical to read some of the coverage of the event. Anyone claiming poor attendance clearly wasn't there, and anyone claiming it was overtly militaristic (speech, static displays, or fly overs) also clearly wasn't there or really dislikes the military.
For our part, we stood on the North side, between the Reflecting Pool and the Vietnam War Memorial, next to a guy in an Abe Lincoln getup and another guy who came with trumpet in hand, LOL. Got to see a group of protesters elbow their way through the crowd, one carrying a sign with middle finger extended and the words "she's not my type" on it. Never did figure out what the heck that was supposed to mean.
Watched the fireworks from a spot near the Marine Corp War Memorial. Other than the sporadic rain during Trump's speech and the ridiculous heat index, it was a great time all around.
That's a pretty simplistic view point. One can not approve of this new shift without being against the military.
I left the DC area on the 3rd once the tanks got stuck going under overpasses and I found out the RNC and the Trump 2020 campaign locked down the VIP section, including where the tanks were on display.
To your small crowd/hate the military depiction, here's a Daily Beast article. No small crowds or hatred towards the military in that one.
This July 4th Had Everything: Tanks, Trump—and Scandal
QAnon, MAGA, Baby Trump balloons descended on the nation’s capital before a display of military pageantry.
Fences surrounding the Lincoln Memorial and across the Reflecting Pool kept non-ticket-holders away from the memorial. The much-discussed tanks were also behind the fences, meaning the vast majority of attendees couldn’t see them.
The actual “Salute to America” could likely end up the subject of a congressional inquiry—not only because of the still undisclosed cost of the entire event, which included military plane flyovers and the president’s precious tanks, but also because of the White House’s decision to create a VIP section for high-profile supporters and donors at the Lincoln Memorial. VIP tickets were provided to the Republican National Committee—but not the Democratic National Committee—that were then offered to high-dollar GOP donors. Trump’s re-election campaign also got some tickets to hand out as they saw fit.
“This is what authoritarians do: @realDonaldTrump is taking $2.5 million away from our National Park Service to glorify himself with a spectacle of military tanks rolling through Washington. And top GOP donors are getting VIP seats, all at taxpayer expense,” tweeted Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), currently vying to be the 2020 Democratic nominee to replace Trump.

... But the old-fellows say we must read to gain knowledge; and gain knowledge to make us happy and be admired. Mere jargon! Is there any such thing as happiness in this world? No: And as for admiration I am sure the man who powders most, parfumes most, embroiders most, and talks most nonsense, is most admired.
^^^ But scruffy said Trump's speech sucked after reading about it on the internet.![]()
^^^ The Trump baloon was never airborne because of weather... did you see it in the air?![]()
A simplistic point of view? Yes, but often times simple is most accurate.
So are you meaning to say that you would have stayed otherwise? Are you meaning to say it was a surprise that the VIP section came with restrictions on who would be able to obtain a ticket?I left the DC area on the 3rd once the tanks got stuck going under overpasses and I found out the RNC and the Trump 2020 campaign locked down the VIP section, including where the tanks were on display.
IMHO, it's only the cynical who could attend and say the event was to glorify Trump. Clearly the vast bulk of the crowd consisted of Trump supporters, but the speech quite clearly glorified a sampling of the people, organizations, and events (many of them military) that Trump views as representative of what makes America great.
As for the cost, it's a bit trickier to quantify. What is the National Park Service budget? How many people attend the parks? What is that cost per attendee? How does that compare to $2.5M and the number who attended the Salute to America? What did those folks spend in DC?
When 3-houses Bernie the Socialist with his Cadillac health care plan complains about the expenditure of $2.5M for a July 4 celebration, methinks it's more populist bloviating than anything else. That's a waste, but offering free college for anyone to study anything is a great idea. Uh, yeah. . .

If it was a campaign rally, it was a really bad one. No one handing out Trump 2020 hats or merchandise, no one urging us to vote for Trump, no one talking about Trump's campaign platform or tearing into any of the two dozen Democrats running. Even the crowd couldn't get it right, as every time they broke into chants it was "USA, USA". Now, as a celebration of 243 years of our country, it was pretty cool.
