Thumbs up Ryzen - What is your planned build?

So I have the bug bad.

Funny enough I have a i5 6600K build @4.2 and I love the computer, especially the my digital M.2 drive. I am building a few rigs for some co-workers with the new chip

I went to Micro-Center on Monday and bought a new corsair case with glass sides, nice evga power supply, 960 evo M.2, ddr4.

Can't wait till next week to get the board and chip. I'm thinking the 1700x. Anyone building and what is the plan? Will AMD live up to the hype? I think So!

So just like the front page Microcenter sent a pre-order email. I pre-ordered a 1700X, no motherboard pre-order yet, I'm waiting for reviews on that. My flav of the month is MSI

    Yes I pre-ordered a Model 3 too

Cool, I did the same chip, thinking the asus prime board but not exactly sure what micro center will have and I'd like to see a few reviews next week.

Re: Ryzen - What is your planned build?

EDIT: Added parts that I've bought since original post.

I've been waiting for quite a while, I currently have a FX 8350, and it's more than time to upgrade.

Processor: I wanted to go with a 1600x, but that was before I learned that I'd have to wait until Q2 to get one. However I just don't want to spend $400, or $500 on the processor alone. I'll wait until reviews are out before deciding on whether I'm willing to wait the extra couple months or bite the bullet on the more expensive processors.

Motherboard: As with undersea, I'm waiting on reviews. I have 32GB of Corsair Dominator Platinum memory coming in and they're pretty tall. As I'm also wanting to use a Noctua D15 air cooler (I have no desire to water cool), I want to be sure the motherboard will have room for both.

As for the rest of the system even if it's not quite in the scope of this forum:

Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro M Tempered Glass
Power Supply: Seasonic 750w 80+ Titanium mentioned on the podcast a while back.
Memory: 32 GB Corsair Dominator Platinum
Storage: Current system storage and MyDgital SSD 480GB M.2 NVME SSD.
Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus x370 Gaming k7 (When I can actually get the stupid thing).
    Processor: Ryzen 5 1600x.
    Cooling: Air, Noctual DH15 SE-AM4

Storage: Current system storage though I'm seriously eyeing a 960 evo.

Welcome Firedruid, anyway you go it will be a great system. I'd make an interesting argument that your current system is more than fine for most things. I upgraded from a 6 core AMD build, just because I wanted a M.2 drive. The i5 6600k cost 189 at microcenter 3-4 months ago.

You hold out till Q2 there will be a pricing war going on that we should all enjoy.

I'd wait on the upgrade, if you have a 6600k. At least wait until all the benchmarks are out and you know that you are going to actually benefit of the power the added cores of the Ryzen bring to the table.

I'm not building for me, I'm completely satisfied with my current rig.

I love to build, test, sell! I'll get to do it a few times in the next week hopefully.

    Samsung 960 EVO 500g, M.2 $225.00
    Toshiba OCZ TRION 150 2.5" 480GB $119.00
    G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 3000 $99
Nvidia 980 (Very Slightly used, recovered from a rip box at work) $150
    Ryzen 1700X $329

I'm looking forward to what PCPer, Jay, and Linus have to say after benchmarking.

PCPEr is my favorite, but check Harpocp, Techreport, and Tomshardware too. I'll have a much more incomplete review somewhere in these forums.

Micro center has put out their boards available on the 2nd. I'm split between ASUS PRIME X370-PRO AM4 ATX and ASRock Fatal1ty X370 Gaming

Waiting for reviews tomorrow. Right price point for me, spent a ton on this build so far, just for something to play with.

none. If it blows me away it might be a candidate to replace my 4770K build, but not until I see the next Intel enthusiast platform

Re: Ryzen - What is your planned build?

Changed my planned build a little

Went for the 1700 & micro center had three boards in stock

    MSI B350 Tomcat
    ASUS Crosshair
Asus X300 board, I think prime

I went the Tomcat board for $79.99 after instant rebate, $424.08 with 3.5% tax
