Thanks to Rand Paul, Russian Media Are Naming the Alleged Whistleblower

Standing beside an approving Donald Trump at a rally in Kentucky on Monday night, Republican Sen. Rand Paul demanded the media unmask the whistleblower whose report about the president’s alleged abuse of power dealing with Ukraine sparked impeachment proceedings.

American news organizations resisted the pressure, but—in a 2019 re-play of “Russia, if you’re listening”—Kremlin-controlled state media promptly jumped on it.

Shortly after Sen. Paul tweeted out an article that speculated in considerable detail about the identity of the whistleblower—with a photograph, a name, and details about the purported political history of a CIA professional—Russian state media followed suit.

This was the most egregious, but certainly not the only example of Kremlin-funded media cheerleading for Trump’s fight against impeachment as proceedings against him unfold with growing speed. As a chorus of talking heads on Fox News have picked up on Trump’s talking points, which is predictable—they’ve also been echoed across the pond, albeit with a tinge of irony.

“Have you lost your minds that you want to remove our Donald Ivanovych?” asked Vladimir Soloviev, the host of the television show Evening with Vladimir Soloviev.

A couple of days ago I was out in the middle of the desert, middle of no where. On the horizon I saw a big gold building with a big sign that said Free Medicare Open Enrollment. There was a line people two miles long. I said me you better get in line before it’s to late. I drove a mile and pulled into the parking lot. I got out of my Jeep and the building, the line and the parking lot disappeared. I scanned the horizon and I said oh there it is over there. I pulled into the parking lot and the same dam thing happened. I chased that building and line for three hours before I figured out it was a mirage... Don’t be fooled by a mirage...

President Trump gave a full pardon to a longtime friend who last year wrote a glowing book about Trump’s successes.

Conrad Black was convicted in 2007 on fraud charges, including alleged embezzlement, and obstruction of justice. He served more than three years in prison and was deported to his native Canada after he was released in 2012. He was barred from returning to the United States for 30 years.

The White House said in a statement that Black was “entirely deserving” of the pardon. In listing Black’s accomplishments, it mentions biographies Black wrote about presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Richard Nixon, but not his tome on Trump.

On the first page of that book, “Donald J. Trump: A President Like No Other,” Black writes: “Like the country he represents, Donald Trump possesses the optimism to persevere and succeed, the confidence to affront tradition and convention, a genius for spectacle, and a firm belief in common sense and the common man.”

I call BS.

Median household income for the United States and 14 states increased significantly in 2018 from the previous year, according to U.S. Census Bureau data released today.
The 2018 American Community Survey (ACS) shows that median household income rose between 2017 and 2018 for 10 of the 25 most populous metropolitan areas.

Is Conrad cherry picking? Income Increased in 14 States and 10 of the Largest Metros.

However, the Gini index of income inequality was significantly higher during the same period for the nation and nine states.
The ACS provides detailed estimates of demographic, social, economic and housing characteristics for states, congressional districts, counties, places and other localities every year.
The estimates contained in a report released today are primarily based on the 2017 and 2018 ACS. All the dollar estimates in this story have been inflation-adjusted to 2018 dollars.

Median Household Income: Historical Comparisons

Real median household income in the United States increased 0.8% to $61,937 between 2017 and 2018.


Median household income for the nation has been increasing every year since 2013, but the year-to-year increase from 2017 is smaller than the prior three years. Previously, increases ranged between 1.8% and 3.3% annually.
This was the second consecutive year that U.S. median household income was higher than 2005, when the ACS was fully implemented.
Median household income in 2018 was higher than 2005 median household income for 31 states and the District of Columbia and lower in five states and Puerto Rico. In 14 states, differences were not statistically significant.
This was also the second consecutive year that U.S. median household income was higher than median household income in 2007, the year before the latest recession. It was also higher than before the recession in 20 states and the District of Columbia.
Median household income in 2018 was still lower than pre-recession median household income in nine states and Puerto Rico. In 21 states, differences were not statistically significant.

So in economic terms, once Obama fixed the sh1t storm the GOP gave him, median incomes across the nation rose tremendously. And that growth dropped when Trump came in.

Donald Trump to pay $2 million to settle New York Attorney General civil lawsuit against Trump Foundation and his children

(CNN)A New York state judge ordered President Donald Trump to pay $2 million to a collection of nonprofit organizations in connection with a settlement with the New York state attorney general's office to resolve a civil lawsuit alleging the foundation unlawfully coordinated with the 2016 Trump presidential campaign.

In her decision filed Thursday, Justice Saliann Scarpulla found that "Mr. Trump breached his fiduciary duty to the Foundation," including by "allowing his campaign to orchestrate" a televised fundraiser ostensibly for the foundation in Des Moines, Iowa, in January 2016, and allowing the campaign to direct the distribution of the money raised from that event "to further Mr. Trump's political campaign."

Now, that charity was a mirage.

(CNN)A lawyer for the Ukraine whistleblower, whose complaint document triggered the House impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump, has sent a letter to the White House warning the President to "cease and desist" attacking his client.

"I am writing out of deep concern that your client, the President of the United States, is engaging in rhetoric and activity that places my client, the Intelligence Community Whistleblower, and their family in physical danger," Andrew Bakaj wrote to White House counsel Pat Cipollone in a Thursday letter obtained by CNN's Anderson Cooper.

"I am writing to respectfully request that you counsel your client on the legal and ethical peril in which he is placing himself should anyone be physically harmed as a result of his, or his surrogates', behavior," he said.

Trump has repeatedly attacked the whistleblower and tried to discredit the individual, saying he, Trump, deserves to "meet his accuser" and has demanded the whistleblower's identity be revealed. The President has also accused the whistleblower of partisanship though Trump said he had no personal knowledge of the person's identity.

I'm sure there's more to come on that, including Don Jr. Tweeting a name and then deleting the post. As if there is no history on the internet. Someone must have told him while his dad was safe from being accountable for breaking a federal law protecting whistle blowers, he wasn't....

President Trump must pay $2M for running crooked Trump Foundation, judge says campaign controlled money donated for veterans

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Saliann Scarpulla was left to determine what penalty should be imposed on Trump personally for his violation of state laws regarding non-profits. She focused on a Jan. 2016 fundraiser in Iowa that Trump promoted as an event supporting veterans.

But $2.8 million donated to the foundation at the event was actually controlled by the campaign. Trump eventually gave that amount to veterans’ charities as questions mounted about the fundraiser — but the campaign allocated the funds, not the charity.

“Mr. Trump’s fiduciary duty breaches included allowing his campaign to orchestrate the fundraiser, allowing his campaign, instead of the Foundation, to direct distribution of the funds, and using the fundraiser and distribution of the funds to further Mr. Trump’s political campaign,” Scarpulla wrote.
