Looking for some upgrade advice

So I am by no means a PC "master". I work in an entirely different field. That being said, I have built many PC's for me and other people and never had major problems so I am confident building.

This Fall during the sales I am looking to upgrade my platform. Will be using parts from this PC ( SSD's, GPU, PSU, case, hopefully H105 cooler) NVMe drive would a nice touch also.

My current setup is:

i7 4790K
Z97
16GB

I play at 1440p at 144Hz. Monitor is ASUS MG249Q

I have been watching the battle between AMD and Intel. Brand doesnt matter to me at this point, Performance/dollar.

Dont need the best of the best, something that would outperform what i have.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you check both of processors for comparing with other your parts? I mean motherboard, etc. As for me - Intel has more options than AMD. And for playing - Intel is better if believing to tests.

I'll recommend you take AMD. Because it will be a lot better for playing games than Intel. And you can also change your processor to i9 later.

Thanks for the replies. Ive been swaying toward AMD. Both in CPU and GPU. Price/Performance is what matters to me.

Would it have to be X570 board?

Using only 16GB DDR3 2133MHz. But 32GB DDR4 3600+ kits seem expensive to me.

Want to fit a NVMe drive in the budget. Preferable 1 - 2TB?

If I were building a machine mostly for gaming I’d likely go with an intel platform but I don’t game so the AMD APUs work perfectly for my modest needs.
