How do I get an ATX power supply to turn on without actually hooking it all up to the motherboard?
Want to test noise levels of a couple of PSUs, and possibly meter the wires for voltage levels off the system.
Thanks.

This will give you the info you need.
Short the green wire to a black wire. That's the enable line, and grounding it turns on the ps.
Leave those you love each morning as if it were the last time, as what happens that day is sometimes not up to us.

Be carefull: some PC switching power supplies are not designed to operate without a load! If you turn them on without any load they might go up in smoke (yes, personal experience). I now use a 1 ohm, 25 watt resistor across one of the 5 volt molex connectors to put a 5 amp load on the +5 to keep the smoke in. Good luck,
Better one here..

I called Antec tech support a few weeks ago because I thought I might have had a bad PSU and they told me to use a paper clip to do that trick with the green and black wire. I thought it was a pretty cool deal there. And thank God my PSU was good![]()
