thanks gents...it was a used cpu I bought off of a gent here, not blaming him at all, poop happens....I just want the board to be ok that is where the money is.....cpu cost me only 30 bucks shipped

had the screen up for set up and was going to start doing this and the screen went blank and then this smell.........ohhh ohhh that smell....like a burnt transformer, now I have to sleep with this and it will remind me all night that I blew up my cpu...

    ohhhhhhhhhhhh

well thanks again for the input and thinking to that it's the cpu and not the board....

well off I go to find another cpu....

    hasta...

Get another heatsink. That burnt one doesn't say much for the one you have.

Course if your case cooling is bad even a decent heatsink can't do the job. Just don't now your setup.

    set up is

    MSI K7T266 PRO MOBO

    DEAD Duron 750

    HSF Unknown

    Vodoo 3500 GPU

    cd drive
    zip drive

    300w antec psu

    cooling fans...

this is a build at moment....so case isn't closed up. I know I need some more fans and will do so later....it isn't going to be OC'd, and understand that cooling is still primary whether it is OC'd or not....

Have a 800 t bird on way, and am looking for a easy to install but good HSF and going to get some Artic Silver II Paste.....

Again thanks for all the input....it is really appreciated...woudln't know what to do without this forum....thanks all...

Grab a Thermalright SK-6. It'll be good for anything. The 38CFM Delta fan if you can stand the noise but a less noisy one will do with that CPU.

That will do the job for that processor. I'd go for the SK-6 if you can afford the bucks but the CAK38 is ok.

    LOL...

Play with enough electronics over the years & it becomes a familiar, even interesting odor . Never could be called "comforting," however .
