Do I need Win2K AGP Patch for Athlon XP?

I've been experiencing crashes with a few games:-
* Age of empires 2
* Half life
Dr. watson says that the .exe has created unhandled exception.

But no problems with:-
* Quake 3 arena
* Counter strike
* Red alert 2

My system:-
Win2K with Service Pack 2
Elsa Gladiac GF2 GTS

I haven't installed the AMD Patch for AGP apps, so I wonder could this be the reason for the crashes with games?
