    i give up its intel time

    Someone either send a priest to exorcise the demons from my machine or im gonna smash it with a hammer and go get a P4. Every AMD machine ive had has been a nightmare and every intel machine ive had has run flawlessly.

    this is the latest on my machine....every time i think everything is running perfectly it kicks me in the nuts, runs over my dog, and calls me a f*cker

    during an install yesterday of 3dmark2k1 the system decided to F*ck itself and destroy the registry so I got to start from scratch today.

    when windows finally got loaded, i loaded in this order, 4 in 1 drivers, amd miniport, directx8 and nvidia 21.83 drivers.

    now i have games crashing on install, programs crashing on install
    errors while surfing the web referring to NVD.dll errors (something with the video card I assume) I cant even get my nhl2002 game to run, and it ran perfectly on my old p3. I also get random windows protection faults where it kicks me to a black screen and I have to hard reset just to get the damn thing to work. NAV2001 also always gives me crap about low memory which i know is horseshit cause I have a gig worth.

    hell my system even seems to defrag slower and this board has ata100! and my old board only had ata33

    I hate to say it to all of you AMD fans out there, but right now I clearly would rather have a P4. Unless anyone has some advice that can remedy this •••••••• that is happening.

    (all about to get backed over on my way to the store to buy my P4)

    Hey there,

    A couple of things to check would be your CPU temperature and case temprature. Also, try taking our all but one of the DIMMS, and see if that helps. It looks like a memory problem to me, and maybe one or mroe of the DIMMs is/are bad. Are you overclocking at all?

    Just a guess

    If you're overclocking - don't. Also, are you sure you installed the via 4 in 1's and the AMD AGP Drivers, rather than the VIA AGP driver which is bad?

    couple things as well make sure the memory is fully seated, happens on many DDR boards. Try pulling out two sticks and just leave 2 in and make sure one is in slot 4.

    And make sure the video card is fully seated. Even If it's just a small amount can cause strange things to happen. Very common these days.

    Have you tried to do a surface scan of the harddrive? I had machine that would act fine one day and next give fits. When I ran scandisk it found bunch block that was able to read but marginal and scandisk suggested to mark them bad. Ever time I run sdan disk on that drive it found more and more till drive failed. Put new drive in end never had problem again from that pc. Just a thought. Also what setting is memory set to, if have change them from auto, you could change them tempory back to auto and do clean reload of OS and software/games, if that works then you can slowly start tweakin the memory faster. Hope it helps

    yes i am sure that i didnt install the via AGP driver. i installed the amd one...

    i upgraded to the 21.88 drivers and then reinstalled directx 8 and i keep getting the same damn DDHELP error when i am surfing the web in IE or juno

    and for those of you who keep asking or maybe missed it in my posts above, I am NOT overclocking yet.....everything is running at stock speed and I fed up with this damn AMD nightmare. All my memory checks out fine. I had just my old video card and NIC installed, then when i put in the GF3 and the rest of my cards everything went to shit, i reinstalled everything and then I had the problems from above.

    if anyone knows how to fix this damn DDhelp error please LMK!

    btw.....i just ran a surface scan of the drive and there are no errors found.

    Hi,

    Just a stupid question:
    Which version of windows are you using?
    There is a known issue where Windows 98/98SE and Me can't handle memory greater then 512 MB. See the link below for further information. I know you have reduced the memory in the meantime but I believe the install of windows becomes corrupt if >512 MB was present during installation.

    I hope this helps.

    Unless you are using Win 2000 or XP you need to alter the [vcache] in the system.ini

    use....

    minfilecache=4096
    maxfilecache=262144
