My PC is a damn space heater

I noticed that most of the hot air being blown out is from the PSU fan and not the fans that are supposed to draw air away from the cpu.

Would another PSU solve this problem (i have an antec 300w smartpower). I even ran my athlon 1.2ghz at 1.2ghz and heat blown at the back is about the same.

My room literally gets HOT sometimes due to the PC, is there any way to solve this?

(no wiseass remarks about turning my AC to a lower temp)

No, probably not. All the power your computer uses is coming through your PSU. It converts the AC lines to +3.3, +5 and +12, etc., DC volts for all the components to use. Like most things in life, nothing is pefect, so the PSU looses some power in the conversion process which ends up being heat. The more components you have and the greater the load on the PSU, the more power will be thrown off as heat.

For example: one of the best PSU you can buy is PC Power & Cooling and they are typically rated at 70% efficiency... that other 30% is heating your room (along with additional loses at the component level: mobo volt regs, CPU, GPU, RAM, etc, etc.).

I dropped my temp down 10C by attaching another fan to the back of the supply to blow the air though it! the supply was very close the heatsink on my processor. my system ran at 41C and processor at 54C before the mod! i have since changed the supply to a sparkle 400W that dont seem to run as hot.

As far as your room heating up, your monitor is probably running a lot warmer than the computer. I have two, somtimes three, monitors running in my room. Really gets warm in there in the summer.

yea i am most concerned about my room heating up not really my cpu temp that much. my monitor is off at night so it generates essentially zero heat but there is a constant stream of heat coming from my psu.

since cooling my cpu wont help my room cool anymore im just thinking of removing my bed from my room and putting in a ceramic bathtub instead so i can fill it up with water and then sleep in it

Hey I do the exact same thing -- it worked much better 4 me than putting that same fan at the back of the case under the PSU.

lol my school has 5 server comps, and they get so damn hot in there they measured the temp at 38 - 40 in the spring and early fall, in the winter there a moddest 28-30, my school went out and bought the biggest air conditoner ive seen and now it stays around 18-22 in the summer and 21-24 without the ac in the winter
