Seb,
Did you ever get those Macs up'n'running or didn't things pan out?

well in the end i had to concentrate on taking my exams (A levels) but now im free i have a bit more time. Basically im gonna have to ask the system admin if i can load it onto the computers and im trying to think of a way to ask that he might say yes...
The security is very tight on the computers so i cant just install it, cos he gives everyone so little access privalges. Also i dont know much about macs...
I think ill go an ask his assistant because hes a bit more open to ideas...
I think probably i should set up a proxy server on my computer so that they can all connect easily...

How about trying to sell it as some sort of educational/science project in distributed computing![]()
Yes, with macs (unless it's OS X) there is only the gui/screensaver version so it would simply be a case of a quick install (literally 30 seconds) and point it at a reliable proxy (my mac get's WUs from Dave's queue and that works great for me). There aren't even any decent caching utilities available for the mac to worry about.

That seems pretty easy, does that mean that it only runs when the screensave would be on, because the computers dont use screensaver...

No - there's a check box in the preferences to run as a screensaver or as a normal app. Just uncheck "enable screensaver" and away you go. Just remember to "roll up" the window (like minimising in Windows) so the graphics aren't being displayed and it'll go a little bit faster![]()
There is also an option to automatically connect to internet when needed that needs to be set (for some reason it's not set by default) otherwise it will process 1 WU and then just sit there with a dialog saying "please can I connect"![]()
The only other thing you need to remember to do is turn off HD power saving in the Energy Saver Control Panel![]()

All is in the sauce
Btw, the snails (as the frog legs) are boiled in a spiced preparation, then the garlic butter is added on them (snails put back in their shell) and the whole plate goes under the grill for 6 minutes.
Serve with a wine from Loire (Saumur, Sancerre) or a strong Beaujolais (Saint-Amour)
Shhhhhhlurppppppp![]()

I prefer not tell how they are readied before.
Just a little bit:
Catch snail after rain. Don't grab them at reproduction period. The best ones are burgundies. Preparation involves making them fast for several days in a closed box, 2 last days eat only flour, when there are no more bubbles, they are ready. Remove from shell, remove the stomach and bowels, then wash the snails under clear water. Preserve. THAT's the disgusting part![]()
For the frog, catch the frog in your preferate pond, rip off the legs, and throw back the frog in the pond. The legs will grow again after a couple weeks.
About frozen preparations, mostly here they are made with snails imported from Hungary. Beware those coming from Asia, some species are as tasty as old tyres.
