Why not make a post minimum before one can trade? I know another hardware forum that will remain anonymous has a 100 post minimum before you are able to post in the trading section. Several other forums have this instated. Works well
post numbers is not a bad idea, it stops teh fresh scammers. hmm...500 posts? that would deter a lot of them

On the flip side of the coin, it would be easy to ferret out the one's Ned's talking about. If they only have a minimal site put up on it or none at all, you can make your own decision of the veracity of the person.

Yep - these are certainly all ideas we can kick around and discuss.

Sorry, I missed the start of this. Anything in particular trigger the discussion or are we just kicking some idea's around? Are we suddenly seeing a rash of scammers/bad deals, or are members just finding the current email rules too restrictive?

Easy enough to pinch a site from somewhere to put up.

EDIT: Also, the point of the email rule is to provide a level of trust for traders that they've met some minimum standard by providing an email address that's traceable through their ISP, and that they shouldn't have to do extra checking on the person they want to trade with (beyond the checks they may already carry out).

I can't take credit for that. It was started here and I just went along.

This place used to be jumpn all around. The name change didn't help much IMO.

I noticed today that PCPER has 97k members, Hardocp has 87k, and hard has way way more postings more in a day then PCPER gets in a week.

In the FS/FT it takes days to get a FS post to the 2nd page. At hard you're lucky if its on page 1 for an hour.

    I miss the 'old days'.

You can pay an extra ~$40 or so and get a "Private Domain" that doesn't let anyone know who owns it.

Ha![Dan's reply] It may seem like it but you know? Part of what Ned...me and Senor do is to simply "spot" stuff...and if a complaint seems legit? A comment makes some logical sense?
We talk about it. Right out in the open.
Trading Mods know that. How we go about things.
And its not a jab at the guys. No way on earth.
Every decision here assumes "good faith" and "honest effort"

I know for fact every member understands the email trading rule.
And appreciates what the "core" is all about.
Its not constructed to injure anyone or make anyone feel
    "left out".
    Its about safety #1.
Above and beyond all else? Thats the driving motivation
    for our Trading Moderators.

These are tough times. Different times.
And there is some weasel in every woodpile
    just waiting to screw someone.
Ill never fault anyone for being cautious and careful.

At the same time? I ask about a guy named Goobee.
Can we take a breath and think again?

    My only point.
And when I see Liquidsoul raise the same questrion?
I am obliged to respond in an obvious way.
To avoid his response or that from AMDMaddness
    wouldnt be correct.

Thats basically where Ned and me are from.
    Lets have a healthy discussion.

That way the forum mods can see all of it.
Think on the issue and do nothing or change policy as they see fit.

Re: "GOOBEES BAR AND GRILL"-NOW OPEN!

I guess I better chime in because I lit the fire...

I think the email rule is a good idea. It sounds good on the surface to me anyways.

But today in the morning I looked and there is a TT support guy selling or buying something. He got popped for a email violation using his work email address which was to TT. Now he doesn't have many posts here, so to me that is a mark against him legal email address or not.

I think a post minimum would be much better then the email address. 50 post min would keep stop byers and spammers from flooding....

And yes the pcper.com email address' IMHO violate the hell out of the email rule. I think its very two faced. Hold every one to the same standards.

PCPER is a stupid name. AMDMB.com was a great place. PCPER.com still has a few of the old faces but is not the same helpful place it was.

Lets see I want to go to... hardocp.com, hey thats easy to type.... or pcpert pcpop, pespcifitve.com, wtf was that damn sight i saw last week......

    You get my point?

God I loved this place, I was here more then most of the mods were.....

Rules are fine, I have no problem with them. It's when they don't work I take offense to them. As everyone can see from my post count and forum joined date, I used to be a rabid participant in these forums. Back in those days, I would have had no problem finding members and and even mods to vouch for me to swing deals. I have never trolled anyone nor am I ever going to.

A few years back, there were some "management direction changes" I disagreed with which led to my decision to leave forum. I popped my head in this week after many years away and wouldn't you know it, I find myself in a similar debate as in previous years. Not much in the way of "Perspective" at these forums anymore I guess.

Understood. I am doing exactly what I should be doing. Ned as well and with LS and AMD Madness comments. Taking the breath that is needed from time to time. Stuff that maybe we can bring up and rethink.
Some stuff I cant unwind or even suggest a rethink.
    But this? The email thing?
At the very least we can converse and possibly rethink.

I'd like to bring the (more) fun back and I favor a 100-500 post before trade limit.

PS: I'll vouch for Goobee-not that he needs it ..

Frankly I count more on iTrader ratings and HEAT than email address (who doesn't) and totally agree about AMDMB - when I'm travelling its the one I use (it still works) when I can't remember the new address.
