I'm a happy fella today. I swapped the K7S5A board in my main system for a XP333R. Without reinstalling Windows the thing booted up perfect. Installed the mobo drivers and all is still fine. Ran a burn in test for 30 min still no problems. It is genoming away now. I always thought reinstalling windows when swapping mobos, especially different chipset mobos, was a must? Of course, I always had VIA chipsets too.

Lucky, Lucky, lucky ..... I've done it myself several tomes including BX duallie to K7S5A -- in my experience the trick is to delete the chipset drivers before shutdown.

However there is something I love about a clean install - not an issue with cable for updates

I had a thought today while looking at a few vendors websites. I was pricing components on building a dedicated folding machine from scratch..ie, not using any parts I already own.

I thought maybe we should contact some of the advertisers on the site and ask them to put together a "Distributed Computing" deal. We could generate a list of components we think should go into a dedicated machine. Granted, the demand would not be great but it what they hey. Shoot, we could even post the deal on some of our competitors sites . I know...I know. Ok, only the sites that are below us in the rankings.

    Any thoughts?

Why not - sounds like fun - who can assemble the cheapest Farm unit (see we need that benchmark FU Mrs T) and still be a good performer. Do we include the cost of the OS? I suggest we stick to the HW only.

Guess which MB is in my farm units? My Systems details

Good evening all! Had a very tiring evening. Took my 6 year old to Six Flags and did the Looney Tune Land tour. Thank goodness she is still too young for the larger rides! Her old dad couldn't take it. You know, there are definite pluses to having a child a little later than usual but there are minuses. It's hard for me to keep up!!!

So, what have I missed this evening??

R&K - I'll share some thoughts on that subject in your PM tomorrow....right now, I'm just too pooped....

Brit: I would easily win the FU contest though I'm no power folder. I've had nothing but BBA5s and their cousins for days
    and days....and days...

Man!! First the system doesn't tell me when I have a PM...now I can't get it to shut up!!! The popup is appearing on every screen I go to. I've read all my PMs....I think I preferred it the other way...

    Mornin' y'all.

small_fry, just remember this pop-up fiasco in the future, and be very very careful what you ask for, 'cause you just might get it.

The idea was to hold on to a WU and post it in a sticky then we could bench mark against it - fine tune settings and see what the lowest cost sytsem could manage.

    It might create some surprizes
