AMD published their first set of recommendations back in the socket-7 days and the industry has not changed it since because it just makes good sense. Proper airflow path with equal intake and outflow area and a fan matching that airflow capability is the right way to do it, and other than the PSU fan, it only takes one more to do it right in a properly designed case.
Been there too BWM, if I'd put another couple of 120mm fans in my old box that cooled an overclocked Athlon 1300 it would've been a hovercraft,
I still prefer the "slightly" pressurised case though, a mid speed 120mm intake fan with a filter mesh, and the standard Psu and 80 or 120mm low speed exhaust, setup my boxes by removing a floppy drive bay cover and hanging a tissue in front of it, with just enough air escaping to move the tissue slightly outward, the only air entering the case has to go through the front fan/filter, keeps everything inside dust free and keeps dust and cat (
) hairs out of floppy/optical drives.
