Re: The Folded Frog Pub and Eats!!!!

Got this one today very funny.

The economy is so bad that . . . .

    1. I got a pre-declined credit card in the mail.

    2. I ordered a burger at McDonald's and the kid behind the counter asked, "Can you afford fries with that?"

    3. CEO's are now playing miniature golf.

    4. If the bank returns your check marked "Insufficient Funds," you call them and ask if they meant you or them.

    5. Hot Wheels and Matchbox stocks are trading higher than GM.

    6. McDonald's is selling the 1/4 ouncer.

    7. Parents in Beverly Hills fired their nannies and learned their children's names.

    8. A truckload of Americans was caught sneaking into Mexico .

    9. Cheney took his stockbroker hunting.

    10. Motel Six won't leave the light on anymore.

    11. The Mafia is laying off judges.

    12. Exxon-Mobil laid off 25 Congressmen.

    13. Congress says they are looking into this Bernard Madoff scandal. Oh, Great!! The guy who made $50 Billion disappear is being investigated by the people who made $1.5 Trillion disappear!

    And,finally...

    14. I was so depressed last night thinking about the economy, wars, jobs, my savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc., I called the Suicide Lifeline. I got a call center in Pakistan, and when I told them I was suicidal, they got all excited, and asked if I could drive a truck.

The economy is so bad that we are hoping to find a house in foreclosure that will cost less than the house we have that has lost 1/2 its value!

If my house had lost 1/2 its value through the Financial crisis, I would stay put till it appreciated again in value before I 'd ever sell ...

It may be a good time to buy, but not to sell, for sure.
Did you inquire why exactly it would have depreciated in value that much ?

There are still a lot of foreclosures in my neighborhood, most of which have been vacant for a year now. It has knocked our home value down enough that we can't re-fi (well, unless we decide to start skipping payments.) Near where I work they are back to building new homes, though much more slowly than before. I guess it all depends where you are.

Re: The Folded Frog Pub and Eats!!!!

3 years ago my house was supposedly valued at 3 times what I paid for it, I knew it was not worth that, that it was just a bubble number so I didn't go borrow against it like I had hit the lottery. Now that it is worth about half of that peak value, it is back in line with reality, worth about 25% more than when I bought it 10 years ago. Unfortunately for people who bought at the top of the bubble, they will have to stay put for some time in order to get that value back. Of course if you bought at the top of the bubble and then had an issue with getting laid off and can't afford it anymore, it totally sucks because even if you try to get out from under it you will never cover that bubble value with its sale now. I have a few friends in that in that exact situation, crappy timing and bad luck just stink but in looking back its hard to fault the decisions they made, other than maybe reaching for a bit more house than they needed, but all of us try to get the best we can afford in most cases so its hard to blame most of them for the calls they made.

Okay not sure where to post this question but didn't want to start a thread for it.

For you GPU specialists.....when running an SLI capable mobo one does not use SLI when folding. Now does that mean one can run two "different" cards (1 x 9600GSO & 1 x 8800GT or GTS) and fold???

    .

From what I 've read about it, you should be able to do that with the latest software.
Jester is the man to ask; I believe you must set the Mobo in SLI mode, but not the drivers of the cards/system, otherwise the cards are seen as one and cannot run 2 instances ...

    .

It 's bad all-round: in N.-Scotland they were completely blocked by new snow (schools and roads closed again), in S.-Spain and Madeira they are flooded and in Moscow they had over 67 cm of snow in 4 days (this late in Winter), a new record ...

After 3 official 'Big Freezes' over here, we have entered the end of Winter with no more night-frost and noon temps around +10C

EDIT: By the way, what is CT in New-Jersey ?

Well CT stands for Connecticut, a different State that's about 180 KM away, typically a 3 hour drive. When all this car purchase stuff started (November) I thought I was being clever saving money in CT vs buying locally and we go there often anyway.

Now our friends that we would overnight with, are in Florida and we have to fight the snow both ways ..

Update on snow: About 8" (20cm) yesterday and about the same came down overnight, I have drifts of 18" (45cm) meant to be another 6"-8" during the day. Guess its what comes from living on top of a hill .... at least when it melts it goes somewhere else

Connecticut, but that I know (a bit) / I was there for 2.5 days in 1996 (I believe) around 6th of December (our Sinterklaas = European Santa Klaus) in Danbury (location of the factory I was visiting) / through JFK.
Nearby they had an 'International' airfield.
During my stay (in the factory) we had a power cut of about an hour

Anyway, you should mount the snow scoop on front of your car (maybe the snow blower ); when you drive up-front on the way back, your wife can follow fine in her new car

I would also take some chains and shovels

I would go for it, taking along some warm clothing and boots, food and drinks, compass, mobile (or 2) etc..
Nice adventure. I 'd set out on first light, hoping for a return by sundown

I 've done some awful rides in my younger years, on summer tires, without chains, over untreated roads ...
(once to Luxembourg and back in 1 day, working there around noon time)
under 400 km, there and back
