Interview with Moderator themortarman

Well, Thursday morning and we have an interview, #12 in the series, with a fella who many might consider a brick short of a load. That would be a gross misunderstanding and in a sense of fair play, I'll let him explain it to you!

OK, by now you know the drill:
Hi there. Let me take a minute to introduce myself. I'm Uncle Bob, a Mod here at PC Perspective. We will be running a series of articles within the forum that will be called Mod Interviews. I ask revealing, embarrassing, stupid, probing questions of Mods and hopefully you get to laugh with us at ourselves and in the process get to know some of us better. Beware, not all the Mods are as forthcoming as you may like, I do my best to uncover the truth, but haven't always hit the mark!
Here ya go, number 12 in the series: themortarman!

1. I realize many of the mods here are in a witness protection program of some sort, but can you give us your real name?
For the sake of this interview lets just say Martin

2. Why did you join PCPer/AMDMB?
I was looking for some help with the new Nforce2 chipset at the time and discovered the ASUS forum through a search.

3. Which forums do you mod? I am a co-mod of the Storage forum and Tech Talk.

4. Why do you keep coming back? It's the best computer help forum on the net.

5. What was your first experience with a computer?
I'm am relatively new to the world of PC's. My wife bought me a Compaq in 2000 it had a K-6 2 in it. She was tired of me asking her to look up stuff on the Internet at her place of work, so she solved it by buying me my own. Of course I opened the side panel after about a week in operation.

6. Do you prefer to be called a "geek" or a "nerd"?

How about a Nerdy Geek?

7. What exactly do you do here at PC Perspective? In most cases not much. This place has such a great membership there's really not much to do. Occasional spammer squashing, try and help with a question when I can, try and have fun mostly

8. What do you like most about your “job”? I realize it’s actually a rudimentary form of slavery or servitude, but you are still here…can you explain this to our readers?
Learning new things and the people, lots of good people here.

9. OK, we all know this is coming…What do you like least about your job?
The forums I mod are free of trouble for the most part the only thing we see is Spam. We get hit with waves of Spam at times its hard to keep up.

10. How long have you been active in PC Perspective? My profile says I joined 12-04-2002 seems like just last year.

11. Where are most active here? What is it you suppose that draws you to that particular area? Over the time I have spent most of my time in the Storage forum. Not sure why I gravitated towards that forum. One reason I can think of is I lost a drive without any type of backup so I wanted to be sure I would be prepared just in case, and for others to be aware of it as well.

12. What interests do you have outside of PC Perspective. Don't be shy, if you don’t have a life outside of here, many readers would like to know! I play the Guitar some what and enjoy tinkering with them as well. I have a guitar in the works that I have been building from the ground up.

13. OK, it’s hardware time! Let’s start with your most, or current favorite piece of hardware. Tell us about it.
My wife just bought me my first 20” LCD monitor so I'd say that it is my favorite piece of hardware. Of course that could change at the drop of a hat.

14. Software? Hey, if you are a closet Linux user, now’s the time to come out. (If you are a closet Microsoft user, don’t be afraid, we can keep a secret!)
I mainly use MS software, I do dabble with Linux, Centos 4.3 to be specific

15. OK, let’s get real personal. Witness Protection Program be damned…Can you tell us something about yourself you’d like us to know? Not much to tell here, grew up on the east coast moved to Oklahoma tried a few other states before settling back to Tulsa.

16. What can you tell us about your job? Hey, if you do something illegal, now’s a good enough time as any to make a clean start! By trade I am a bricklayer got in the gunite pool business doing masonry, started my own small company, have branched out to different types of pool work mainly related to mortar, concrete and cement. Mainly new construction but we do the occasional repair and remodel.

17. Where do you live? (Be fearless, your secret is safe with us..)
Tulsa, Oklahoma

18. What can you tell us about your family??
Have 4 brothers and 1 sister spread out all over the country, one brother lives in France. My parents live in central PA.
I have been married to my beautiful wife for 7 years we have no children just a few critters
.

19. Here’s a delicate one…How old are you and where did you grow up?
I am 48, grew up in a town called Old Bridge, New Jersey.

20. Well, we are getting to the end of it, it’ll all be over soon, I promise. What would like to say to our forum members, go ahead anything. Get it off your chest. We have all day here…. I'd like to thank Ryan, the members and the administration that keep this place running so smoothly. The members for sure!!

Re: Interview with Moderator themortarman

Good interview Every time I hear Oklahoma it reminds me of the Gilbert and Sullivan production "Oklahoma!" and I get a mental image of some country yokel with his buck-toothed babe in a slurry (with a fringe on top). Don't ask why... And no I don't think of you that way

With a nick like yours, I'd be tempted to put in the member title "Laid one"

Though I didn't grow up here in Ok I think it is mandatory to learn to sing the song Oklahoma in grade school.

There was a big state celebration during the winter we went down to check it out, the grand finale was Oklahoma. Everybody in the audience knew the words , I didn't.

Ohh. Ooops I've always referred to it as a slurry 'cos that also (conveniently) is a word here for a woman lacking physical charisma...

LOL @ TMM Fine style. That's like forgetting the words to the national anthem As long as you can hum in tune, eh?

We were trying to get "Louie, Louie" as the WA state song....not sure why that never passed!

Beats the heck outta Rogers & Hammerstein, me thinks!

I would have thought it'd be more suitable to Louisiana

Re: Interview with Moderator themortarman

Wasn't there some type of controversy over that song "Louie, Louie" way back when?

Some knuckleheads thought they were singing something explicit in the song if I remember.

Or was that another song?

Re: Interview with Moderator themortarman

No, that was the problem.....we were willing to sing the 'expletives deleted' version and everything, but in the end.....no sale!

Maybe by the sound of "Loo-ey Loo-eye..." but it is an emotional favorite up here because the Kingsmen were a Northwest band... Portland Oregon, actually. In the end, it was made our official Rock Ballad or something like that, "Washington My Home" is still our state song. It's so lame, the whole Louie Louie thing was started by a late night tv show as a prank when...

Oh, sorry MortarMan... anyway, great interview!
