ASUS needs a new amd high end board

asus needs to release a high end 790fx board that his sli / crossfire, usb 3.0, sata6g, sas 6g, xfi audio,and a killer Nic not to forget if the tech becomes a real solution lucid's hydra engine

AMD CPUs just aren't powerful enough to draw enough of the enthusiast market in. It's part of why we're seeing market stagnation right now, there's not enough competition between AMD and Intel to keep people upgrading like they used to.

The solutions out today for USB 3 and SATA 6G are fairly lackluster too, typically they have one USB 3.0 controller on them, whereas a motherboard today will have about one controller for every 4 ports.

I heard that Intel is not interested in releasing USB 3.0 until late 2011 somewhere. Nvidia was upset about it.

Same point you brought up Windrunner, Manufacturers are lessening the need to make changes when nobody is buying or when they own the market shares.
Intel has always been the type to stagnate when they felt like not offering anyone more value for the money.

2011 for USB3? I could understand Intel want to keep USB3 and SATA6G as new selling features for the upcoming 6 series chipsets in 2010. But 2011 is a little too late IMO.

AMD will surely include these two features in their new SB850 next year.

I personally don't like the idea of using add-on chips to provide USB3 and SATA6G. The implementation which Asus use reduces the available PCIe lanes to the end user and the bandwidth is still less than the theoretical max of the SATA6G. Gigabyte is even worse (at least on their P55A boards). Their method crops 8 PCIe lanes from the main PEG port.

It only makes sense to save money on your R&D costs when there is no reason to compete. AMD did it too. Luckily the split they did with socket 754 and 939 proved to be their downfall, and Intel just did the same thing, so they have an opening to move memory controllers back to the chipset ( and buff up their chipset division ), and unleash a whole range of CPUs compatible with the same socket type.

Why would they want to move the memory controller off the processor die? The onboard controller is what made the A64 architecture, and now the core i5 and i7 processors feel so responsive, IMO.
