Re: Can we upgrade to win7 64 bit from windows ME?

So if I have a windows 7 upgrade that I need to use with Windows ME or Windows 2000....I can't do an upgrade but I will be able to do a clean install? Can someone confirm this?

Can you also tell if we can upgrade from Windows 7 RTC Beta to Windows 7 using windows 7 upgrade CD? Is it legal to do so?

As mentioned in the two posts prior to yours, Windows ME and Windows 2000 are not eligible upgrade paths to Windows 7. For that you need the full retail version.

Not sure about the beta, but you can legally use the Upgrade version if you're using an activated copy of Windows 7 RC, however without modifying installation files you're looking at a clean install. Ultimately it's still advisable to do a clean install. There's also talk that this is not an eligibel upgrade in some areas, so it's probably also a wise idea to call MS and confirm for yourself.

All you have to do is install win 7 upgrade without a code, Then when you get to the desktop, do a upgrade to win 7 and your upgrade code will work.

Which is illegal without owning a qualifying product (i.e. XP or Vista) to upgrade from.

Yeah that would be illegal. I was able to call Microsoft and get my key transferred over to dell and now i have the other windows free to be installed on another comp.
