Power Cable For Asus Xonar DX Audio Card

The Asus Xonar DX audio card which I recently purchased requires power by way of a 4-pin connector. The supplied cable with the audio card has a 4-pin connector on one end and a wide 4 pin male connector on the other end. The power supply on my Dell Studio XPS 435MT only has one free cable marked P7, with 2 rows of 3 holes on each row. Can the P7 cable be used to provide power to the audio card if I can find the correct adapter cable for the cable which came with the audio card, and if so, where can I purchase this type of adapter cable. I need a site which shows pictures of the cables so that I know I am purchasing the correct adapter cable.

Not sure what a P7 cable on dell looks like ( pcie 6 pin ?), but presumably the asus connector has a molex connector on the end of it. Check your other PS cables you should have molex connectors elsewhere ( hard drive/optical drive etc) where you can insert a Y connector and gain a spare molex.

The P7 cable has a 2x3 connector which I believe is used for optical drives. The power supply does not have a Molex female connector.

Re: Power Cable For Asus Xonar DX Audio Card

The P7 might be a Dell proprietary connector or a pci express power cable
I don't know of a 6 pin optical drive power connector. A picture might help
So no molex anywhere, even one in use that the y can connect to ?
How about a y that can connect to a sata power connector, a sata splitting to a sata and a molex ?

How about a y that can connect to a sata power connector, a sata splitting to a sata and a molex ? That sounds doable. Will this have a negative effect on the hard drive to which this sata power connector is connected?

The DX uses the floppy power cable. If you're not using your floppy drive you can just disconnect the power cable from it and use it on the sound card.

My computer does not have a floppy drive or a floppy power cable from the power supply.

I think the power draw is quite low, I don't think that you should have a problem with sharing sata power.
