Does anyone know what the fastest Nvidia card is that DOESN'T use a six or eight pin additional power cable?
Trying to add a video card to my parent's computer and it does not have any video power cables. It is a Dell and also only has SATA power feeds (no molex).
Most likely the Galaxy 9800GT Low Power edition. Galaxy is also supposed to have a low power/low profile/single slot 9600GT (it was reviewed here in may 09) but I have yet to see it anywhere.
Well if you go that route, you'll be a few generations behind! If you have a couple of free molex plugs on that Dell PSU, I would pick a recent low power consumption GPU, like the ATi HD4770 and use an adapter like this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814999018 to get the needed power compliance.

I couldn't find a SATA to 6 or 8 pin adapter at the egg, but that doesn't mean they don't make'em. You could try finding one and bypass the molex all toghether.

DarkAngel, what power supply is in that Dell, make and model number. You may be more restricted by the +12V rail and to a lesser extent the wattage rather than the cabling. As Ed_Strong pointed out there are always adapters.
The computer is an Inspiron 531 and has a 300w power supply.
Ouch, if you're not going to consider upgrading the power supply, then I think your first instinct was right. This EVGA 9600GT recommended power supply is 350W and 20A +12V rail (total system power).
You may even want to set your sight a little lower and consider a 9400GT which only needs a 300W PSU with a 18A (TSP) on the +12V rail. Your parents don't plan on doing much gaming are they?
