I've managed to play the game at almost a constant 6 hours a day for the past 4 days, and have come to a conclusion. I am an addict. lol
The game is a little bit on the graphically slow side with my next to top of the line Vid card, compared to my next in line game called rapplez. these games are both MMORPG's. WoW is both more fun and more involved with the user and users then Rapplez, and Guild Wars. (Though both of those games have better graphics. ) the draw back is that you have to take time to either complete the quests or just not bother at all.
My absolute favorite part is the interface it uses. (WSAD) and space bar!!! no click to move and no button mashing!!!!
I gave up WoW because it did nothing constructive for my real life apart from entertaining. I do not spend as much time gaming online as I used to because I construct things IRL now instead of gaming as much as I used to, but if you are gaming in WoW, do not neglect real life responsibilities such as school, work or relationships.

I havent started that yet man, lmao
thinkin about not playing wow for a bit thouh i got Powned by a girl lol
With some of the characters I've seen that my friends have, there's a good chance it wasn't a girl
I'm only keeping my account active there to see the next expansion. I've been waiting for them to tear up the original lands for a while, ought to be fun.

I skipped mmorpgs entirely and any time I feel the urge to play one I crank up blender 3D.
With nearly 100 hours into learning blender 3D, I'm about 100 more away before I can start charging commissions. Sci-fi roleplaying forums tend to pay a lot of money for commissions of their characters, something like 80 bucks a pop.
With the tools that are available for free, that's about 6-8 hours a model at 80 dollars a model.
Animation, however, is the time investment of hte model plus about another 8 hours, but a 1 minute 30 second animation I can charge 300 dollars plus for.
All for less time investment than WoW, plus it's ME creating the content and ME getting paid, it's a win-win-win situation.

Pure genius man, good job. My wife is one of those that pays to have portraits of her charators done. she says its such a large part of her (our) life that it makes the game more immersive.
Make sure to hit up the Neverwinternights forums too, those guys have been playing a LONG time and have a lot invested in their toons.

Basically, for 80 dollars I model the character and do a few poses, as well as make a mod to put a lower quality model into games ( I can't let my base models get out, that's like giving out your source code, and something about really high poly models and real time rendering doesn't work )
For the 300, I'd model a character and do a minute and a half of animation depending on what they asked for. It'd be limited to what I could get in mocap and how complex the movements they wanted were.
Additional objects, custom weapons, etc are all additional fees.
It's a great way to use a gaming computer you'd made to be a server and stuffed to the brim with RAM. Frusterating as all heck though, as not only am I learning blender 3D, but I'm also having to learn the GIMP.
I can't draw what-so-ever, either, so I have to be creative.
Sounds like a great way to make some cash. Find the need then fill the need.
You may be indirectly feeding their addiction but it's still very entrepreneurial!
Most of them aren't addicted, and of course I'd deny anyone who was ordering a ridiculous amount of stuff done. My goal is to make the equipment pay for itself.
If you were building a top end water cooled overclocked gaming rig for someone, would you not charge them commission beyond the actual price of the parts?
The cost, once I get good enough to use the tools, will be about $400 for the movement packages and a huge time investment to learn blender (200-300 hours) plus the gimp (at least 20 hours) plus any dynamic physics stuff if I want to try to edit the mocap files (Don't know how many hours)
That's just to get to a point that I'll accept a commission. That's not factoring in an accurate monitor ($1200) and a fast workstation ($4500) and other things.
Of course, I don't expect to get that much doing characters for sci-fi geeks. Small business commissions, where I would sign over the rights to the model itself, would pay enough.
