Lucid is here (well Ryan reviews pre production version)

http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid...e=expert&pid=1

Simply awesome. On the limited # of games tested it is already more advanced then current SLI/Crossfire. This could be a total flop technically or financially but there is no doubt these guys did it the way it should have been done in the first place. If nVidia or ATI had done it this way with the resources they used for their proprietary solutions this tech would be have been mainstream at the same time as dual processors. Most likely Lucid will be in the chipset soon, as no one will want to waste time or money on the old ways.

One note not discussed, the frame rates are real, 1,2,3,4, not 1, 1.1, 3, 3.1 as with frame stuttering.

You can say I'm too enthusiastic about this, but this is 15 people that have kicked AMD-Ati and nVidia right where they deserved it. Both of these companies were chipset makers and blew a big opportunity because all they could see were their precious GPU's. and cutting out the other guys.

Not sure where anymore, but Nvidia has said, they are going to code their drivers, in the future revisions, to lock out the Lucid Hydra chip in some way. Nvidia knows their days are numbered.

No, that's just how they go around showing motherboard companies "Here's what we can do, now integrate it into your motherboard design". They haven't showed any intentions of selling that kind of setup for everybody to use.

Re: Lucid is here (well Ryan reviews pre production version)

i was pretty surprised to see it working as well as it appeared to.

the one thing that caught my eye was the 260 + 285 setup. basically came out the same as the 2x260's setup. would have preferred to see some separation there, maybe with future driver revisions though?

there's still some things i'm wondering about, like different feature sets for different cards, different dx version support, things like that.
