Before I start let me just say that I would never and have ever used a cracked game copy and I'm totally against it. I believe it is killing games slowly (not just on PC but consoles as well). It is wrong and I choose to support people that created products so that we can have more/better down the road. I'm sure many will question "better" but that's a whole another subject.
Just spoke with my brother in law as I noticed he was playing MW2, of course he is one of those people. So he tells me that a cracked copy actually has 10 servers to choose from and a server browser. Also says that cracked version has Steam removed as well.
Let me get this straight. Here I am "trying to be the good guy" and purchased a $60 game.....while hackers end up with a better product then the real game?
This is REALLY F'ed up.
Now I'm considering using it as well so that I'm not limited/in hand cuffs.
Goes off to bang his head against the wall......
PS. IW is totally neglecting/ignoring PC community. Just stopped by the forums and people are posting all kinds of crazy stuff, vulgar things about developers etc....considering posting porn, as no one is watching (since it's not deleted/locked yet).
Well.....PC MW2 gamers must really be pissed after reading this =D It hasn't been very long since release date, it must have been really easy to crack, or they worked uber hard to crack it.
This isn't really new, the fact that a game is cracked shorty after release, with all the protection software removed, and with multiplayer support (for the cracked games only). On top of that, given what they have done to this game, does it really surprise you at all?
Im really confused about all this. I just want a solid SP experience, which I hear is included, albeit short.
But the amount of rage and controversy caused by the PC version is scaring me from buying it. I really dont care about steam or MP, should I still buy it if I can get it for 30-40$?
The same thing happened with Spore. Everyone was upset over paying and getting limited functionality vs. pirating it and getting full usage. Eventually it was sold DRM free.

Most of the controversy is tied to the online experience; if you don't care about MP (neither do I), if you enjoyed the first MW installment, I think there's a lot to like in the sequel (based on the written and video reviews I've read/seen).
I would never pay full price for any new release, but that's me. In a few months, I can pick it up used or new on eBay or Amazon for less than half of the current MSRP; I don't mind waiting. At $30, I think it's worth a gamble; it's a tougher call at $40+.

Do not buy the PC version of this game used. Ever!
It is STEAM activated.
The key is forever tied to that STEAM account.
And I'd be leary of buying it on eBay for that reason.

+1. $60 for a short single player mission is too much. I have a feeling there will be plenty of nice cheap copies on Ebay within a month. $30 seems like a decent price for this game. Of course with all the stupid Steam activation BS they've made it pretty much impossible to sell a used copy on Ebay anymore. I used to buy a game, play it, then sell it on Ebay all within a few weeks. Now I just don't buy the game at all.

Gah! Not another one of those.
Figures, if they moved away from Punkbuster to use a Steam anti-cheat technology, this was just inevitable.
I wonder if it's legal to sell products without resale rights? Not that I sell games on a regular basis, but it would be nice to have that option.
The worst I saw on eBay: my brother was looking for BF2 so we could both play the game once patch 1.5 came out. There was a person selling just the media, not the key. His response was, you can just search for a key. UGH. We needed the opposite - not the media, but another key.
It's so weird that you actually don't by the game anymore, just a key so you can be unique player online and don't get booted if someone else tries to use the same key...

STEAM activated......whoa! </Keanu>
I refuse to buy anything remotely affiliated with STEAM, new or used, physical or digital; you just saved me a lot of grief. Thx
And those that think they will get it for $30 in few months think again, COD4 MW hasn't gone down in price until last month....
Not through conventional retail channels, you won't. You just need to be more resourceful as a shopper.
Example: I paid ~$20 (shipping included) for a factory-sealed copy of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Limited Collector's Edition) [PC] via eBay six months after it was released. It's all about timing.
