Hiya. Looks like I've joined. I'm raz1337 on the team.
I have an Athlon II X4 620 @ 3 Ghz system sitting at home doing nothing since my Asus G51VX-X3A is just amazing for gaming. So, I've installed the folding software on it. There might be other details I'm missing, but I'll look into it later.
I might set it up on my other 2 laptops, but I'm not sure. This is kind of motivation to keep pushing for a faster and more effective processor, just for folding! :P
What Client(s) did you install and on what hardware are you running them, just out of curiosity ?
I 'll prepare you an official welcome when the above happens (stats delay is about 3+ hours against the official stats at Stanford http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/...qtype=teampage because of work-delays and the fact that the EOC stats are updated every 3 hours ...
All I saw is that Folding is for some research. I just skimmed over it enough for 10 minutes before work just to get the client set up, haha.
.
The CPU Client is a client that runs single-core, 32-bit.
If you have that kind of hardware, I would suggest running the SMP Client; if you want high stability, I 'd suggest running it in Linux (download here: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Download (needs a 64-bit Linux platform with 32-bit libs)
There 's also a Windows based SMP Client (a bit more troublesome) which can be downloaded from here: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther
The SMP Client runs faster and has a higher yield, it 's a 2nd generation Client (GPU Clients can be called 2nd generation too, they started at the same date as the Linux SMP version) ...
Your choice, of course

Reason: added 1st line + extra Linux info (64-bit)
I downloaded, installed and configured the SMP client. 2 questions, though:
1) The guide said to avoid running it as a service, so am I left with an open command window all the time or did I open it the wrong way?
2) I'm getting a File IO Error when starting it. A quick Google said it was due to overclocking, but I set the system back to stock and still got it.
Yes, you won't notice after a while, (I have 2 going, hardly ever turn them off by accident any more (knock on wood)) some oses you can run as a service, which is why mmentin asked
You will need a windows password to install. If you don't have one you will need to do that. Ask and someone here can tell you how to get windows to ignore it at startup (forgot how myself)
Delete the old F@H (the work folder especially if in same folder) and then run install bat for the smp this will set up the smp inter-core communication..
If in Vista (don't know about Win7), I remember them pointing out NOT to install the Client in the default path (Program Files), but in its own Folder because the elevated security on the Programs Folder makes it impossible to run !
It 's been a long time since I Folded SMP under Windows; in the early days the Windows version was not stable enough and I switched to Linux for SMP Folding ( that 's why )
